Our good friends at the walk wheel cycle trust had asked for extra pairs of hands to tackle the local infamous grot spot on the cycle path around the old Durham Ox pub and sorry it looked too: there was litter, vegetation hanging low, plenty of fallen leaf mulch on the path encroaching and shrinking the path to half its width.
Jane and Hafza from the Trust shared the tools and off we went tackling the path from both ends on a strategic pincer movement: 2 of us with shovels, 4 with pickers to start with, then onto brooms and loppers. and before you knew it, we had met in the middle and the cycle paths started to look more like a red carpet!
We took time on the way back to meet with a few cats and with the lion and lionnesses sculptures of the Sheffield children’s hospital " pride of Yorkshire" fundraiser!
Walk Wheel Cycle Trust is the new name for Sustrans, and they've been making it possible for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle since 1977. Uniting under a new name and a renewed mission to deliver more joy per journey, more peace per pedal, more smiles per mile.
