3 GoodGym delivery drivers arrived at Acton Gardens schools waiting for their new consignments. Soon the site controller, Romina, arrived with today's job list and all became clear. Many hats and shirts would be needed today.

High Security 👮

First up, Kash, Madhan and Sevan donned their Securitas uniforms to move 2 cages from the Primary School, across the road to the South building of the Junior School.

The cages were reversed down a slope onto the playground, then they could continue their journeys. The small cage could be carried by 2, while the larger cage was a wide, heavy load that needed 4 drivers to navigate through the gates to the new site.

Post-Man ✉️

Once the large cage was delivered, Sevan changed roles and put on his Royal Mail cap. He was assigned to move some wooden posts that were blocking access to a compost heap. They were in the garden of the Junior School South and their destination was a 3 sided wooden box nearby.

Sevan, with Romina's help, made 5 trips with one post in each hand, propping them up at the new location. When the last posts were in position, the wooden enclosure decided that it couldn't take the weight anymore, wanted to take it easy and leaned back a bit. Luckily the trees behind took the weight of the posts. Sevan and Romina backed away slowly and marked the job as complete.

Nearby, Kash and Madhan were dropping off the second, smaller cage. Perfect timing!

Pallet Express 🚚

This delivery was quick, once we'd had a wardrobe change and were wearing our Pallet Express shirts. We were moving 2 pallets from Junior School South to North. Apart from the usual hazards of walking backwards, it was pretty straightforward with 2 pairs of hands for each piece. It was hardly worth the time it took us to find a changing room.

Pack My Home 📦

For our last task, there was no more moving between sites. The last outfits that we pulled out of our bags were for Pickfords, as we prepared to pack Cultivate's belongings. Romina introduced us to a ton bag of compost whose contents needed to move onto the pallets that we'd just shifted. Smaller bags were fetched and after 30 minutes of shovelling, we had a neatly stacked pallet ready to load into a moving van.

Job done!

Life on the Veg 🍅

Thanks again guys, you are amazing as usual, little steps to great and tasty results... 😋

After the jobs were complete, we were treated to a tour of the Cultivate beds at the Junior School North. Today was our first times at this location and we were shown the potatoes, raspberries, tomatoes and many other crops that the children of the school were growing with Cultivate's support. We were even offered a taste of the produce, some broad beans, mint and lemon thyme, plus Madhan scored the only red 🍓 in sight. It was great to see and taste the results that our volunteering contributes to.
