On a very cold Wednesday evening three brave runners went. Unfortunately Holly was unable to make this adventure but passed on the baton of litter pickers and some bags so that the task could continue. Once we collected the equipment from meeting at Woking Leisure centre, the runners went straight into action, Anne had noticed much litter on her way in so we all headed straight there. So Anne, Sharon and I started to head Bradfield Close. Once we got there were was plenty for us to start clearing out, from crisp pockets all the way to full half-bottles of wine. Having spent a good ten minutes there while tussling with the bushes to grab as much of the litter as possible we needed to start to warm up again as the cold weather was kick-in!! We then made a run along Mt Hermon Road where there were plenty of light bits of litter discreetly hidden in bushes and hedges along the road when we passed the local Woking Conservative Club where there some people gathered outside. They were very enthusiastic with what we were doing and gave us much encouragement. As we headed to the end of the road we came up against a street corner that had amass a mess!! We quickly dig in and found plastic bags, plastic water bottles, kinder toy shells and so much more. Having filled our bag and determined to stay warm we decided to call it a day so a we ran back to Woking Park, we said good bye to Anne on route where she departed and kindly took the rubbish bag with her, Sharon and I continued to the Leisure Centre trying our best to keep warm. A great session with lots of start stop running helping to keep us not only warm but in tip-top shape for the colder weather ahead. Brilliant work team 😊

This morning was the last junior parkrun of the year and it was a very windy one.
Wayne, James & Sharon carried out various roles cheering and encouraging the 89 runners many of whom running in festive outfits🎅.
We had many new runners today from all over the country, Liverpool, Cornwall, as well as the midlands.
The fastest time today was an amazing 08:16 & there was a total of 14PB’s.
Wayne & James afterwards enjoyed a Festive breakfast 🍳
We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Years.

Last night we headed to the Foodbank to help pack up the bags for Chrismtas.
We had a great turn out with members and welcomed Victoria to her first GoodGym Group run experience. Well done to Rachel, James, Adam and Anne ran just over 4km to Knaphill Food bank in the Landsbury estate. The obviously had the run back.
Once we were all ready we had 55 bags to load, we started by getting all the goods in crates. We were all assigned a good to pack and got in a line, with Kirsty starting the Conveyor belt it made it down the line to be taken into reception ready to be given out to those in need.
Last night was out last session of 2023 and my last offical Group run as area activator. I will be helping out in the background until a new activator can take over but due to personal reasons I will not be able to continue.
Remember to join in for the first session in January - more sessions will be appearing soon for you to sign up to.
Have a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Last night members were out in the cold to help spread the word of upcoming Christmas events held by Woking Hospice.
GoodGym members demonstrated their commitment to community service by actively participating in a leafleting campaign to promote the Woking Hospice Christmas Concert. These dedicated volunteers, known for their passion for both fitness and social impact, played a crucial role in spreading the word about the event. Through their collective efforts, they not only increased awareness of the concert but also contributed to the festive spirit in support of Woking Hospice. The collaboration between GoodGym and Woking Hospice exemplifies the positive impact that community-oriented organizations can have when working together for a meaningful cause.
Woking Hospice has been a beacon of comfort and care for those facing life-limiting illnesses in the community. As part of its ongoing efforts to reach a wider audience and garner support, the hospice embraced a strategic initiative that enlisted the help of passionate volunteers to spread the word through leafleting.]
Next event will take place on the 13th December and we will be helping make up the food parcels for Woking Foodbank. Its always festive one to end the year!
Would anyone be interested in taking over as Area activator for Woking GoodGym? We are looking for a member to take over and help Woking GoodGym continue for another year - if you are interested please email email@example.com
