Bag a medal!

Sunday 21st April

Written by Greenwich runner

Our two volunteers from Goodgym Lewisham, Phil and Sander, passed their first challenge - to carry their bikes across the full flow of Mile 8-marathoners 💪

Once at the garden we figured it out as we went along. We’d recently been donated wooden planters and bags of topsoil from construction company Wates. Sander wheelbarrowed 40+ bags of topsoil down to the raised beds. Then Phil filled beds so that we could plant out the saplings and some bright flowers to provide cheer to the passers by.

Regular volunteers planted out seedlings and labelled the produce. Once it’s bearing fruit, we’ll welcome back Goodgym and Wates to share the harvest. Opening every first and third Sunday of the month, there will always be weeding, watering and planting to do.

It was genuinely so helpful to have two pairs of extra hands this weekend as we lifted heavy things that would take hours solo! Thank you 🙏

Paving the day!

Monday 24th April 2023

Written by Kim Parker

A small but mighty group gathered at Glass Mill, not deterred by the pouring rain we left promptly to make sure we arrived at our first destination of the night to lift and load the paving slabs that had kindly been donated to the PNK Garden (sorry we made your floor slightly muddy, Molly).

Having forgotten to take any pictures at this point and leaving Steve and Adam behind to pile up the remaining paving slabs, the rest of us ran on to our second destination - The PNK Garden.

We even managed to beat the car that had to drive rather slowly due to the weight of all the paving slabs. Once arrived, we began unloading and stacking neatly in the corner of the garden. Steve and Adam returned just in time to help with the last paving stone.

Everything plus the kitchen sink

There was just time to help with a couple of jobs in the garden including clearing an area for soil to be delivered and moving pallets and a couple of trees.

Tasks done for the evening, it was time for a quick group photo and onto Glass Mill.

Excellent work tonight team, we tackled everything on our list with only half of the number of people expected!
