Good pick for all of us

Friday 12th April

Written by Sarah

Who knew that Sainsbury's slogan is now 'Good food for all of us'?

5 Goodgymmers took part in the Food Bank Run, a movement created by Hampshire based running club, Fareham Running Club, encouraging every group to create their own Food Bank Run. With backpacks filled we carried our donations to our local Foodbank donation site in Sainsbury's.

Nick had suggested bringing the litter pickers too which was a great idea, there's always plenty of litter on this route with fast-food outlets galore and tin can alley. 2 full bags of rubbish on our travels.

Shout out to Gareth on his first GoodGym Good deed and first completely new member of the year. Great to meet you and chat about your trail running adventures, hopefully see you again.

Lovely to see Lynn and hear about her first Run Director role at Junior parkrun, enjoy your parkrun tourism tomorrow along with Mel and Stu. Great morning walk with a purpose and lovely sociable walk in the sunshine.

Weldone all coming along and giving so much enthusiasm to the task.

Pick of the litter

Friday 23rd February

Written by Sarah

6 Goodgymmers met to fill our litter bags with any rubbish in our tracks on a sociable walk from Everards Meadows. Joined by Gwen and Tracey from GoodGym Derby. We set off with the sun shining chatting about the weekly goings on and our parkrun destinations for the weekend ahead.

There was plenty of rubbish to pick from, Tracey and Nick even attempted to fix one of the supermarket signs that had become detached from a post.

3 full bags later our time was up and we grouped together for coffee, teas and cake in the local coffee shop.

An apple a day keeps the Doctor away

Friday 19th January

Written by Sarah

6 Goodgymmers took on the GG double day litterpicking Route 6 National Cycle Route. Stu finding an apple, that could be very hazardous to cyclists and pedestrians.

To be honest the route was not bad which is surprising how badly the route suffered with flooding, enough litter to fill a bag between us all on a nice leisurely 2 mile walk with lovely company. All the signs on the route looked clean and well visible, including the repeater signs we added last year.

Gwyn and Tracey from GoodGym Derby joined us for the double, always a pleasure, such a friendly pair and lots in common with the GoodGym Leicester members that we always have so much to talk about.

Weldone team and fantastic efforts taking on the double today, nice to have one task indoors and one outdoors on a very cold but sunny day, perfect.

Monstrous plogging

Friday 27th October 2023

Written by Sarah

2 Goodgymmers dared to sign up for Monster plogging, with big eyes looking down on us we plogged our way through Leicester City centre. Stu was quite suprised to see the first monster (I don't think he was expecting actual monsters haha). Kim was excited to tell us about Good Morning Britain talking about plogging yesterday on the news, pleased we are on trend! Great to see you again Kim hopefully see you on the Taskforce team soon.

Making our way past the Town Hall we were finding all kinds of rubbish, it didn't take long before our bags were filled and we had spotted 3 monsters whilst plogging- litter picking, running and laughing what more could we all ask for on a Friday morning! Weldone team.

Fitter picking litter

Friday 1st September 2023

Written by Sarah

5 Goodgymmers skipped along Mossdale Meadows picking litter from the car park, walk way and on to the Osiers Nature Reserve. Being a popular walk to school route the team did a fabulous job of clearing bottles and cans, preventing any harm. Was nice to pass our Secret Garden creations through the school fence in the woodland area, passing a previous Good Deed.

Weldone team, pleased to see you all after our last minute change of task, enjoyable walk and fresh air, whilst also doing a good deed for our local area, I'm on number 99!
