No Paint, No Gain ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

Wednesday 6th March

Written by Wayne

This evening 8 GG members ran between to help a local community organisation.

This evening James, Wayne, Kirsty, Adam, Katie, Anne, & Rosie met at Woking leisure centre & set off to the Foodwise community hub.

It was a dry but chilly evening; perfect conditions for a run.

Anne was back marker making sure no one was left behind while Adam, Wayne & Rosie led the way. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝ

When we arrived at the food bank Julie was already there and with Shani and Doreen had set everything up for us to get stuck in.

We all split into pairs and tackled the 4 walls. We last came a few weeks ago and the paint looked really nice we got our brushes going.

James put on his running play list to to work along to. We had some old school anthems ๐ŸŽถwhich reminded Kirsty of her clubbing days ๐Ÿ’ƒ.

In no time we had finished the 4 walls and it looked great. A great colour sage green. We then stopped to have a healthy snack bar and healthy organic drink which was kindly provided by Shani.

Once fuelled up we headed back to the leisure centre via the pub for a bite to eat.

This was such a great rewarding task and hopefully we will be back to carry out many other tasks.๐Ÿ˜€

Painting at Foodwise TLC

Wednesday 21st February

Written by James McCloud

Last night we had a brilliant task to get stuck into.

Foodwise TLC is a fantastic community service which provides very affordable food and cookery teaching to the Sheerwater community.

Julie knows the organisers and encouraged the referral and Wayne worked behind the scenes over the past few weeks to organise the date and materials required.

James, Anne, Kirsty and Adam met at the leisure centre and ran together to the location.

Along the way we were very happy to see Lauren having just finished her fitness class, and she joined us for the remainder of the run.

On arrival we were not sure where the entrance was but Julie had already arrived and spotted us from inside and came out to fetch us in.

We were greeted by Shani and Doreen who are some of the volunteers there.

We were pleased to see that they were very ready for us and had tins of paint and paint trays ready to go.

Shani spoke to us all about the project which we found very interesting and fired us up to want to help. We then spread out around the room with some rolling paint and others doing the cutting in.

After a while the room was looking good, and we stopped for a fruity drink before finishing up and tidying away everything.

It was a nice task and good to catch up with everyone. We agreed we would revisit in 2 weeks time to apply a 2nd coat and do any extra bits.

Adam, James and Anne then ran back to Woking where we debriefed in the pub over a pint and some bar snacks, with Kirsty joining once she had retrieved her car.

I think we can be pleased with how much was achieved in the time and we look forward to going back.
