The year to volunteer

Saturday 24th February

Written by Sam

Three of us delivered charity leaflets to nearly 400 homes between Richmond and North Sheen. These charities were the elderly person support network Richmond Good Neighbours and the Richmond Volunteer Service, you can have a read about all the great things they do in the photos above and there's even a QR code to the volunteer service website!

Letterboxes are useful

Sunday 10th December 2023

Written by JP

On a wet Sunday morning new joiner Vanessa met JP at Richmond station to distribute cards for the Richmond Good Neighbours.

As there were only 2 of us, we split up and took various roads each.

While the task was straightforward, Vanessa and JP were both struck by the number of residences they could not find or deliver to, because of a lack of house number or the total absence of a letterbox. How do these people get their post?

We managed to deliver almost all the cards in the end, grateful we didn't get hit by the heavy rain which came later.

Share Fair

Sunday 7th May 2023

This morning it was a walking task, delivering leaflets for the upcoming May Fair and the Volunteer Fair.

Fortunately the rain took a break and it was quite a warm morning as 4 of us set off from the station armed with stacks of leaflets, having given a pile to Lucy to deliver later in the day.

The piles were pretty heavy so we were glad to start dropping them in letterboxes. We split into two pairs and went up to the Vineyard and the roads off it, then Onslow and the roads off that.

By the time we finished we had diminished the stacks quite a lot (thank goodness for blocks of flats!) but still had a good wedge which we dropped off at ETNA. Good to get the job done and still two days left of the weekend!

Everybody needs Good Neighbours!

Sunday 29th January 2023

Written by Liz (She/her)

Our first Sunday walking task is complete! The five of us met at Richmond Station to head up the road to the residential streets to deliver leaflets.

These leaflets were for Richmond Good Neighbours who do incredible work to help vulnerable people in the area access support. Around 400 leaflets were posted with the aim of finding new volunteers amongst the lovely people of Richmond.

Liz clocked up around 5km in Strava, a great example of how all movement is exercise. Plus it counts to our January Challenge total that is still going strong with just three days to go.

Good deed done before midday on a Sunday, yes team!

11 helpful elves, reindeer and santa fans, hit the pavements of Richmond for a festive feast of good deeds! Delivering Christmas cards for not one, but two organisations - Richmond Good Neighbours and St John the Divine Church.

Starting at the Tap Tavern, cards were divided up for runners to deliver and walkers headed straight to St John the Divine to collect some of their cards and complete delivery to some of the streets in the parish.

One pair racked up nearly 4.5km of zooming about while walkers got at least 4000 steps in, a great chance for members to get involved in their own way.

There are more streets to deliver to for the church, have a look at our upcoming tasks if you think you can help.

Flyer Flyer Away

Saturday 21st May 2022

Written by Sal Wardeh

4 goodgym faithfuls showed up on this beautiful, warm Spring Saturday morning to attempt to finish what was started on the previous Monday mission - namely to distribute the remaining flyers (over 1000!) promoting Richmond CVS Volunteer Fair which is taking place at RHACC Richmond this Thursday, 26th May.

After meeting at ETNA, the 4 split into 2 pairs (boys v girls) and went on their merry way to dutifully deposit leaflets into the mailboxes of the residents of East Twickers.

Monika took the brunt of miffed barking dogs behind closed doors as we swiftly made our way around the sun drenched streets which were lined with beautiful blooming bundles of daisies, daffodils, tulips and some impressive fragrant rose bushes. Nothing beats a stroll on a glorious Spring morning.

the faithful four met back at base and Adam kindly offered to take some of the remaining leaflets and then we made our way over the bridge (waving at Cathy as she rushed past) for a well earned coffee and nata tart (Thanks Chris :)
