Pawdyguard

Thursday 25th April

Written by StephDucat

Thursday evening and 5 goodgymers paws-tive(ly) meet at Acton station to then distribute leaflets around the station for the next Reduce and Recycle Hub at Acton Market on the Saturday 4th of May. Fur-tunately the rain stopped and the team walked from house to house for leafletting. As usual, the crew were welcomed or not by the pawdyguards. Who(of) are you? Dogs and cats alert on the goodgymers when approaching the letter boxes. Was it pawsible to deliver all the leaflets without being chased by our furry friends? Alot of dogs barking, luckily from inside but we had some brave cats defending their houses too!! Fur-ocious 4 legged friends and no Goodgymer was hurt during the mission. Appaws for the 5 goodgymers who covered roughly around 3km each and distributed all the leaflets. Pawsome mission!!

Letterboxing Clever

Monday 26th February

Written by Kash

Steph, Sevan, Pippa, Kash, and Beata met on Monday evening at Acton Town tube station to distribute leaflets promoting the Reduce and Recycle Hub happening this Saturday.

They ventured towards the new development buildings Northeast of Bollo Lane to post flyers in the residents' letterboxes. There were some real jackpots scored as the GoodGymers encountered large clusters of letterboxes outside the buildings.

Despite the cold wind, the team worked quickly and efficiently, chatting and joking as they went. They completed their task in no time, spreading the word about the monthly event promoting reducing waste and ecouraging circular economy. They left Acton Town with a sense of accomplishment and looking forward to their next session together.

Covering our backstreets

Tuesday 30th January

Written by Kash

The Reduce and Recycle Hub team (Action West London) got really serious about reducing when it comes to their leaflets. Minimum size, maximum content. The A6 flyers that we were distributing today were loaded with information about the upcoming and regular events in Acton:

  • Reduce and Recycle Hub on Saturday the 3rd of February where the residents can learn to fix clothes, bring their bikes for repair, recycle clothing and shoes, appliances and laptops and swap books
  • Acton Market - a weekday street market supporting small local businesses
  • Market W3 - a similar street market but every Saturday

The GoodGym leafletting squad was formed by the usual suspects. If only one of them was not in recovery mode, all would have been running today! Sevan led tonight's run, Steph Ducat was up for getting some mileage in as usual, Christos made his comeback in 2024, hoping he wouldn't be freezing his fingers like the last time, and Chris, who doesn't shy away from a humble Acton leafletting session, didn't disappoint after he let us know last week he'd be joining the gang.

The runners met Kash in Acton, who brought five fat envelopes of kash (see the photos!) after making a suspicious deal last week with Action West London. We didn't want to be caught with so many notes on us! The contents of the envelopes had to be dropped somewhere! The team decided to use the letterboxes of houses on the streets between Uxbridge Road and Gunnersbury Lane for that purpose. The suspects finished lighter by 433 leaflets, but they have been seen by a few cats and heard by several dogs. We are hoping that having a few tasks for the Ealing Animals Fair coming up soon, we are in their good books and cats and dogs will keep quiet about our activity in Acton.

The runners covered 5km in total, the lone walker 6km, and everyone put in an extra 2.6 km during the task.

Join us next week for another run to Acton followed by the usual chaii afterwards here!

We sharked the jump

Tuesday 28th November 2023

Written by Kash

It was the third group run in a row to Acton. We might have jumped the shark in this episode but we promise the next session will be in the opposite direction from Ealing Broadway!

The Christmas edition of the Reduce and Recycle Hub needed all hands on deck, even if those hands would be freezing. The task was a classic leafletting gig on the Acton streets. In the spirit of reusing and recycling, we went not only for a shark mural photo but also a shark-based pun - both already used back in February.

"How did 5 GoodGymers deal with 500 flyers?", you may ask. We encountered many obstacles on our journey such as "no junk mail" signs and freezing fingers that didn't do well trying to separate individual leaflets from the whole stack. Despite the temperature drop and the fact that Steph and Christos were in shorts, the score was 497 flyers distributed.

It was like an initiation - Christos

The cold made the group run a challenging one but those who managed to complete the session in such conditions now can do any task! The team stuck together till the very end and run back to Ealing Broadway to warm themselves up in a pub and meet more friends.

Trick or Sheet

Thursday 26th October 2023

Written by Kash

Thursday night was not too damp
I had postage but no stamp
Had three hundred paper sheets
Could exchange them for some treats
Walked in Acton door to door
It was fun and not a chore

Met some black cats on the street
Wish I had those quiet feet
When I sneaked in through the gates
And put leaflets in their place
When flyering is a crime...
Jack-o'-lantern feeding time!

Bones, skulls, cobwebs - sometimes fake
Did they make me stay awake?
Not one puny spook or scare
Ever frightened me, that I swear
Only one I can't withstand:
Letterbox that chomps your hand!

With no fellows by my side
I was phantom of curbside
In the darkness, in the hush
I finished my evening rush
Now every gal, every chap
Knows Reduce - Recycle Hub

The Boomtown Cats

Sunday 1st October 2023

Written by StephDucat

5 GoodGymers joined forces in the Bermuda Triangle this Sunday to promote Reduce and Recycle Hub for Acton Market. Hub on the Saturday 7th October 2023 from 10am until 3pm. Kash, Sevan,Rohan and StephDucat were already together as did a litter picking just before. They were joined by Divya who cycled to the Mint Cafe. Welcome to Rohan who joined Goodgym on his first tasks today and well done to Kash for reaching 500 good deeds today. After hot beverages were finished the team walked the streets of Acton : walked a bit more than 4km and all the leaflets were distributed in the post boxes swiftly and the team go some help by some friends ...on 4 legs!!! The Boomtown Cats thought something fishy was going on when seeing 5 Good Gymers and then understood our mission and were keen to spread the world for us bout the Hub. We also found some shoes : was young Cinderella in such a rush that she left both her shoes?!
