3 Goodgymers came to the rescue when all the regular Planet Food cafe set up volunteers were away. We got to see how this big operation gets started every Thursday. First we put out the tables and chairs for the shop and the cafe, taking heed of how 13 tables are arranged to be even quicker next time. Then we lifted and shifted the box after box of food donations that were coming in fast - everything from coffee mate to coriander, sourdough to swanky birthday cakes, most to be sold in the shop. Finally we collapsed the used cardboard boxes that are then returned to Tesco. There was a real buzz by the chef, kitchen staff, shop organisers, and cafe team to be ready for the customers lining up outside. It is scary to see how much food surplus piles up in just 1 corner of York. But It is encouraging to see how many volunteers work hard to make sure it does not go to waste. Thank you Goodgymers! We've been asked back for 1 more week.

A swift clean up as ever at Planet Food, with super help from Sam & Elle who were on a gardening task outside. Chairs stacked, tables wiped & put away, floors hoovered and swept and Southlands left in ship shape ready for the next community activity.

I popped along to Planet Food to help set as they were short this week. Turns out very short as only me until Compost john arrived and helped. There were lots of volunteers sorting food and prepping - its such a great operation!
Forgot a photo so here is one of my cats

Leanne braved a rainy lunchtime run to join Mikael with stacking, chairs, clearing tables and sweeping floors at the end of this week's Planet Food session and was handsomely rewarded with a cinnamon roll!

6.30pm on Ladies Race Day was an interesting time to start a task in South Bank! We soon lost the staggering crowds and posted our leaflets around Terry's Chocolate Works ( - its a modern housing estate these days.) Unfortunately we couldn't get into the flats to post another 100 or so. We then leafletted the houses on the terraced streets of South Bank. Job done ahead of schedule! We hope it does the trick and more people come to support Planet Food Cafe. We couldn't help posing by this local sculpture to finish! Thanks guys!

We had a strong team of five today so we made light work of packing away all the tables and chairs into their resting places. After a hoover and sweep we were done and were offered bread, fruit or herbs from the sessions leftovers as a reward
