Signed, Revealed, Drill-ivered

Tuesday 23rd November 2021

Written by Lucy Hill

On a chilly Tuesday, four Hammersmith of Fulham runners (and one on two wheels) were at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Gardens in White City. We met with Susannah, their resident gardener, who had three jobs for us:

  • To repurpose some signs about the garden, and secure them at the entrance

  • To clear the leaves from the grass and paths

  • To tidy up in the greenhouse.

We got to work - Lucy and Biscuits worked together to saw the signs up, and drill holes into the corners ready for hanging (with no fingers lost)!

At the other end of the garden, Bethan and Arba armed with brooms and takes took on leaf and greenhouse duties, soon joined by Andrew.

Susannah was impressed as the trio made quick work of their tasks, and soon ventured round to the front to attack some weeds at the entrance to the centre.

Biscuits also found himself another job, taking on ivy that was overgrown and taking over the walls. Armed with his head torch and a big chopper, ivy no doubt that he was going to get this task done.

Meanwhile, despite not sawing anyone’s fingers off, Lucy was getting to grips with the cable ties, and securing the new signs to the fence out the front. Cable ties and cold fingers are not a great combination (but did a drilliant job with the newly hung signs!).

It’s amazing what you can achieve in an hour, and Andrew, Arba and Bethan had cleared the weeds. Susannah gave them the biggest task yet - to chop back the tree branches that were taking over the newly de-weeded path at the front. And what a job they did. Susannah was absolutely delighted at the difference Bethan and Andrew had made with two pairs of choppers! All of a sudden there was twice as much space, and she couldn’t stop grinning ‘everyone is going to be so shocked tomorrow when they see!’.

The final thing to get done was the tidying up. We all helped chop and load black bags with the bush trimmings and swept of the fallen ivy. Job done - signed, revealed, drill-ivered!

Shed over heels!

Tuesday 29th September 2020

9 GoodGymers got stuck into a shed load of jobs for sweep thrills at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden

On a cloudy but dry Tuesday evening, nine GoodGymers entered into the Josiah Briathwaite Community Garden, part of the Nubian Life Centre. We were all greeted by the lovely, Susannah who was very glad to see the red GoodGym army back to lend a hand.

The Nubian Life Centre provides adult day care services for the Afro-Caribbean community with health issues such as Dementia and Alzheimer's.

Pre-Covid-19, the community garden was used by the elders at weekends to grow organic and medicinal food, and as a safe space for children to explore and find all the bugs! Currently, they are running online workshops for both adults and children which are going down really well, especially with the children - oh the wonders of Zoom!

Susannah ran through tonight's list of tasks with the group:

  • Weed the patio and paths 🌱
  • Sweep the patio and paths 🧹
  • Cut the overhanging plants ✂️
  • Tidy and sort the shed and greenhouse 💪
  • Construct some new shelving for the greenhouse 🔨

Moving shed loads

Arba and Ed were tasked with a big challenge...their first job was to remove EVERYTHING out of the cluttered and unorganised shed and sort through it (chuck, keep or almagamate!). They worked in perfect tandom and it wasn't long before a whole plethora of items were lying outside of the shed.

Amongst the boxes, bags, tools, lawnmower and BBQ, Ed discovered three beers that were all (sadly) well beyond their best before date. There were also broken broom handles which Ed gave to Will to break up into smaller pieces - thankfully only one break was done before Susannah interjected to stop the destruction, and exclaimed that the broom handles could be used at their art workshops.

Once everything had been removed and sorted through, Arba and Ed began the process of putting it all back in - this time in a far more organised fashion! Check out the transformation, it's impressive! Susannah expressed her delight at there being storage space within the shed, and the fact that she could now both see and locate items inside!

Sweeping up appearances

Michelle, Analiese, Beth and Lucy began tackling the weeds on the patio and paths. Analiese discovered the magical "s••t hot pointy weeding tool" (Tom Clough, 2019) and took great satisfaction in removing the weeds from the cracks in the patio and paths with it.

Lucy went with her favourite past time, sitting on the floor and pulling out weeds, Michelle joined her and also applied her manual brut strength method on the weeds to good effect.

As Lucy tackled more of the weeds by hand (still sat down!), Analiese and Michelle ensured a clean sweep up of the weeds into neat piles; while Beth was on hand with the large dustpan and brush to sweep up their many piles!

Cut's the worst that could happen?

Outside of the garden, Will was helping Susannah to cut, sweep and bag all the large overgrown plants. With heaps of clippings surrounding him, Michelle and Beth came out to lend a hand armed with bin bags, brushes and large dustpans and brushes - we get treated to all the best equipment by Susannah, and I could sense a twinge of jealousy from our GoodGym Hounslow neighbours! 🤪

GoodGym in glass houses with lots of shelf-efficacy!

Holly and Miranda teamed up to tackle the greenhouse. Due to the shed being too full and unorganised, the garden tools and other items better suited to the shed had been placed in the greenhouse with all the plants.

Once Holly and Miranda had removed all the items out of the greenhouse onto the lawn, they then began to assemble the shelving unit - to help utilise the space within the greenhouse.

With a bit of 'to me to you' action and good teamwork it wasn't long before the shelving unit was built and carried into the greenhouse. The final step was to put everything that did belong in the greenhouse - plants, pots and compost - back into the greenhouse and onto the newly built shelving unit.

With all the jobs done ✅, everyone posed for a team photo, lit up in the darkness by Susannah's small but powerful lamps.

Before we headed our separate ways home, Susannah reiterated to the group how pleased she was to see us back, and thanked us all for our hard work - the nine of us had worked for over an hour = nine hours of work, saving Susannah a whole day's work! Well done team! 🙌🏼

Big welcome along to our THREE new GoodGymers tonight, Holly, Miranda and Ed - thank you for coming along, hope you all enjoyed your first task!

Bulb planting, how to sleigh it with flowers

Tuesday 17th December 2019

Written by Beth Nelson

On the last run of 2019, and of the decade, 15 GoodGym'ers had a Santastic evening planting bulbs at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden!

Oh it’s beginning to look (and sound) a lot like Christmas! Tonight, 14 wonderful GoodGym’ers joined me on the final run before the Christmas break, festively dressed in Christmas hats and earrings, and high in spirits.

In a Tuesday evening double-deed special, 6 of these GoodGym’ers had just come from a Community Mission for the Shepherd’s Bush Families Project, where they were serenaded by the angelic voices of Katie and Lucy who sung and danced their way to the BetterGym...in the words of Buddy the elf...”the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

Big welcome along to Beverley who joined us for her first GoodGym H&F group run - thank you for coming along, hope you enjoyed it!

You snow the drill...news, then 'elf & safety

  1. Win a limited-edition GoodGym sweatshirt 👕 - bring a friend to a community mission in December and post the story of your community mission on social media with the tag #winterwarriors. All the details can be found here.
  2. New GoodGym badge alert! - attend a community mission between Thursday 19th of December and Sunday 5th January to earn this new winter warrior badge.
  3. H&F Community Mission - 'Operation put the hall back together' for Shepherd Bush Families Project on Thursday 2nd January from 11am-1pm. Join Lucy to help move furniture and toys back into their hall, please sign up here.

Time waits for snowman

With the news and all important 'elf and safety briefing covered we had a quick warm-up which comprised of some high knees, jumping jacks, spotty dogs, lunges and some festive 'shooing of the turkeys'.

Before we set-off on our run we had a quick fitness fix through a brilliant team performed of the 12 Days of GoodGymas:

  • 12 stars a-jumping
  • 11 squatters squatting
  • 10 lungers lunging
  • 9 runners a-leaping
  • 8 press-ups
  • 7 lungers side-lunging
  • 6 dabbers dabbing
  • 5 spotty dogs
  • 4 squat jumps
  • 3 burpees
  • 2 single hops
  • and a partridge in a GoodGym tee!

Bravo team! 👏

No rain, deer

The pouring rain had convenient stopped and with everyone nicely warmed up we headed off through the busy streets of Hammersmith up towards Shepherd’sBush, pausing briefly for the beloved wall sit en route. Thanks to all the rain there were quite a few shouts of "puddle" and after a splash, "sorry, puddle!".

Sleigh, what?!

We entered into the Josiah Briathwaite Community Garden, part of the Nubian Life Centre, and were greeted by the lovely Susannah. The Nubian Life Centre provides adult day care services for the Afro-Caribbean community with health issues such as Dementia and Alzheimer's.

Susannah explained that the garden was used by the elders for their Saturday gardening club where they grow organic and medicinal food. The young'uns also come along to pick and eat the apples and cucumbers in the garden, and they're also taught skills such as cooking and felting.

Yule never guess who got here first!

One of the tasks for the evening was going to be the sweeping of the paths, but the Christmas elves had beat us to it and had formed neat piles of leaves that Alice was quickly able to clear-up and bag using the small but efficient dustpan and brush!

Working in Claus proximity

The other task for tonight was a first for many...bulb planting! There were 2 species of bulbs that the team were planting tonight, the edible Camassias and Allium. With the key planting techniques covered: how deep in the soil to plant, which way up to plant and how you should plant in triangles and not straight lines, the team gloved up and split into smaller groups of 3 or 4. Each group took a handful of bulbs, a floodlight and a trowel and set to work.

With fabulous team and trowel work it wasn't long before all the bulbs were expertly planted in the planters ready to flower in the spring. Great job team. Amazing work as always! All that was left to do was to pack-up the trowels and gardening gloves, and of course take our team photo with some perfectly-lit conditions thanks to all the floodlights!

Time to head back? Sleigh it ain't so

Following a quick final chat with Susannah about the Gardeners' World visit last year - check it out here - we all said our final thankyous, goodbyes and Merry Christmas' and began our run back to base.

Following a speedy run back to base, we were treated to a special Mo led cool down and stretch off, in the words of the man himself, "ah that's lovely that!"

2019...it’s a wrap! 🎁 What a TREEmendous 🎄 & RUNderful 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️year...time to get Santa-mental! 🎅🏼

Thanks for another fantastic year team! And for the chocolate treats! Have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year!

Leaf it to us to al-leaf-iate the leaves! 🍂

Tuesday 19th November 2019

Written by Beth Nelson

The leafs have leaft the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden thanks to the hard work of GoodGym H&F

Tonight there was the 'great debate' on ITV, at GoodGym H&F however, our great debates tend to be around 'weed or not a weed?' and the big questions in life such as 'what is your favourite pudding and what animal would you rather be?' - I feel we do a good job at putting the world to rights!

Despite the noticeable cooler temperature due to a cold front from the North Pole*, 14 other GoodGym'ers joined me for tonight's task at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden.

Big welcome to our new runner tonight, Rosie who joined us for her first GoodGym H&F group run - thank you for coming along, hope you enjoyed it! And great to see Analiese (our new token Kiwi!) back for her second run.

With everyone layered up and ready we headed outside for our news round-up and warm-up...

Some pro-leaf-ic running...

We started off the evening by first congratulating our Fulham 10k runners...Lucy, Jonny, Alice and Arba. Well done all and congratulations Alice on the new PB!! 🙌🏼🥳

We also congratulated Tom on his tough Maverick Trail race, one of those 'flat' races with a brutal 217m of elevation!

In other news...

  1. H&F Community Mission - Thursday 12th December for Age UK H&F's Christmas Party. Please sign up here if you can lend a hand anytime between 4pm-8.30pm.
  2. GoodGym have teamed up with food poverty charity FareShare and Tesco to help people struggling with hunger in a series of community missions. There's one happening in Wimbledon Metro on Saturday 23rd November. For all the details, click [here].
  3. GG Training Run - 13 Bridges Battersea - Tower - Sunday 24th November. All the details are here.
  4. FoodCycle, East Acton - Volunteer to cook community meals from surplus foods. All the details are here - if interested, speak to Cookie and he can make it a Community Mission!

Leaf it out!

Before we headed off on our run we had a quick warm-up comprising of some high knees, jumping jacks, spotty dogs, lunges and some perfectly executed side-to-sides, both clockwise and anti-clockwise! With everyone nicely warmed up we headed off through the busy streets of Hammersmith up towards Shepherd’s Bush, pausing briefly for the beloved wall sit en route.

Matt, Tom and Andrew kindly continued on up the road to distribute about half a dozen leaflets for Open Age H&F, a charity which provides hundreds of weekly activities for local residents aged 50+ to sustain their physical and mental fitness, maintain an active lifestyle and develop new and stimulating interests - the good news is we'll be distrubuting more of these leaflets next week!

As it was a good few degrees colder than of late we had a nice brisk run up and it wasn't long before we'd weaved our way round pedestrians and zig-zagged through the streets to reach the Nubian Life Centre. In perfect synchronisation, we arrived with Matt, Tom and Andrew who appeared in the darkness from the opposite direction.

Read it and sweep!

We entered into the Josiah Briathwaite Community Garden, part of the Nubian Life Centre, and were greeted by the lovely, Susannah. The Nubian Life Centre provides adult day care services for the Afro-Caribbean community with health issues such as Dementia and Alzheimer's and Susannah explained that the garden was used by the elders at weekends to grow organic and medicinal food, and as a safe space for children to explore and find all the bugs!

Susannah went on to give us an interesting gardening lesson around the benefits of green manure and the permaculture principles to restore fertility and nitrogen to the soil, and the Gardeners' World visit last year - check it out here.

Tonight's full list of tasks to be done that Susannah ran through with the group were:

  • Planting green manure 🌱
  • Sweeping the patio and paths 🧹
  • Removing and cutting up the old climbers ✂️
  • Raking and collecting all the leaves from the grass 🍂
  • Fixing up the new signs for the garden 🔨

Green manure planting that's a cut above the rest

Matt and Marissa got stuck into the garden bed with the assistance of some secateurs to cut the dead plants. Eloise, Tom and Andrew worked together to remove and cut up the dead climbers from the dead garden bed and began the planting of the green manure.

A clean sweep

Opting for the brushes were Rosie, Analiese and Johnny who teamed up to give the paths and patio a good sweep, with Johnny taking on the important role of bag holder in Sarah's absence.

Rake that leaves

Lucy, with her new found love of the rake, systematically raked the garden and formed many a piles of leaves that Andrew and Tom efficiently collected and bagged using the 'handy' hand-scooping tool. Cookie ensured the new signs for the garden were securely put up, while Alice and Sarah got fully stuck into the garden beds, meticulously combing through the plants to remove all the leaves that had fallen, forming yet more piles of leaves!

With the time coming to call it a night, everyone finished up with their jobs, piled up the 5 bags of leaves and garden waste, and branched out for a team photo around the tree. Susannah was incredibly appreciative of the teams hard work and efforts to get the entire list of jobs completed as they have a visited from their funders tomorrow - what good timing for a GoodGym style garden makeover!

Check out the transformation!....

We said our final thankyous and goodbyes and began our run back to base. En route back we bumped into two familar faces in GG tees, Jonny and Mo, who earned their good deed by delivering the final Open Age H&F leaflet. Back at base, Mo kindly led the cool down and stretch off before everyone headed home to the warm! Great job team. Amazing work as always!

Next week we're we're leafleting and postering for two local charities, Open Age H&F and Food2You. Please sign up here. Have a great rest of your week and weekend. Hopefully see you next week!

We apple-y helped out

Tuesday 15th October 2019

Written by Beth Nelson

18 GoodGym'ers shaked, appled and rolled as they apple-y got stuck into a heap of jobs at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden

GoodGym H&F...the best way to conquer jet lag and post-holiday blues! Big thank you to Catriona for leading these past couple of weeks 😊. Despite the darker and colder evenings drawing in, tonight we were treated to a dry (rare as late!) evening for our run up to lend a hand at the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden. With everyone ready and donning their GG tees we headed outside for our news round-up and warm-up...

A round of apple-lause for...

We started off the evening by first congratulating our very own ‘Speedy Jonzales’ Jonny Knight on his 50th good deed! 5️⃣0️⃣🙌🏼. A nice new black GG tee for you to speed around in will be coming your way!

The weekend saw lots of racing, very wet racing!...a big well done to Eloise, Matt and Steph who ran the Oxford Half, and to Tom and Jonny who ran the Cabbage Patch 10. Congratulations to Eloise on the PB!! 🙌🏼🥳

In other news...

  1. Unofficial GG10 party 🔟🎉 - Friday 8th November at Topolski Bar on the Southbank. All the details are here.
  2. 1. H&F Community Mission - Saturday 9th November at Wormholt Park. Please sign up here if you can lend a hand anytime between 11am-3pm.

Warming up to the core

Before we headed off on our run we began we some heel flicks, jumping jacks, and both mine and Johnny Wren's favourite, spotty dogs! With everyone nicely warmed up we headed off through the busy streets of Hammersmith up towards Shepherd’s Bush, pausing briefly for the beloved weekly wall sit en route.

Juiced in time!

We weaved our way around all the pedestrians and it wasn't long before we reached our destination for the evening, the Nubian Life Centre; and in perfect synchronisation, both Susannah and ourselves arrived within seconds of each other. The team gave Susannah a hand with all the equipment from her car as we all headed inside to the Josiah Briathwaite Community Garden.

The (apple) pressing jobs

The Josiah Briathwaite Community Garden is part of the Nubian Life Centre, which provides adult day care services for the Afro-Caribbean community with health issues such as Dementia and Alzheimer's. Susannah explained that the garden was full of colour so as to provide a high sensory element for those with dementia; the garden is also used by the elders at the Centre to grow food and provide a space for children to explore and find all the bugs!

Tonight we had a nice long list of tasks to be done that Susannah ran through with the group:

  • Weeding of the patio and paths, using the favourite ‘deadly pointy weeding tool’ 🌱
  • Sweeping of the patio and paths 🧹
  • Tree pruning ✂️
  • Raking leaves from the grass 🍂
  • Wooden edging and stone rearrangement 📏
  • Fixing up of the trellis 🔨
  • Picking of apples 🍎

An 'in ciders' viewpoint

Jonny took on the ‘gram duties for the evening, capturing the team’s hard work and asking everyone ‘what does GoodGym mean to them'? - if you haven’t already, be quick to check out the stories on @goodgym_hf! Answers to the latter included friendship and community, and of course, biscuits! (no prizes for guessing whose answer this was!!). While Mo was on hand to take the 'smouldering' snaps for this week's vogue magazine...well the run report and the 'gram 📷.

Trellis again, how many GoodGym'ers are needed for the job?

In the age old question of 'how many GoodGym'ers does it take to put a trellis?' we confirmed tonight that it is in fact 5! Mo applied the final rotations of the screw to the trellis to ensure it could stand unaided and later tested out his handy work in a photoshoot of his own - you've got to know the face behind the camera after all!

Swept away by the appeel of ‘the deadly pointy weeding tool’!

With the 'deadly pointy weeding tool' in hand, Will ensured he weeded between the lines to eradicate the unwanted and unsightly weeds so they could be swept up easily.

Broom raiders, a cut above the rest!

Tom, Eloise, Matt, Johnny and Sarah armed themselves with brooms to sweep away all the up-ended weeds and leaves from both the patio and paths into neat piles so that Lucy, Arba and Naveed could ensure a clean sweep of them all with their trusty and effective dust pans and brushes.

As the others swept, Maddy eyed some bunting that needed to go, using a plastic chair to gain some leverage, and with no scissors in sight, secateurs provided her with the cutting ability needed to remove the tackled bunting!

Heart raker!

Bex and Alice got stuck into the raking of the grass, providing some top quality punning which raked my day as they got stuck into what they described as 'the great rake up!'...

With weeds and leaves being raked and swept up at an incredible pace, the garden was beginning to look nicely spruced up, you wouldn't have believed it was Autumn!

Rocking out

As Andrew finely pruned an overgrown tree, Steph and Sarah began 'rocking out' on the flower bed edging, working until the bitter last few seconds to ensure it was fully completed.

Core blimey!

With the time coming to call it a night, everyone finished up with their jobs and gathered in the tools. Susannah kindly offered everyone a reward for the fruits of their labour, apples fresh off the tree! With the lighting perfectly set, the team posed for a group photo, or two (well ten!) with their apples before getting stuck into them.

After some quick calculations, Susannah worked out that we'd saved her 9 hours of work tonight, and as there isn't the staff to do that much work she was incredibly appreciative of the teams hard work and efforts to get the entire list of jobs completed.

And they all lived apple-y ever after....with biscuits! 🍪

Once everyone had cruched their way through their apples we began our run back to base, and to the highlight of the evening, Lucy's scrabble biscuits, delicious and iced to perfection!

The perfect way to end a fun and successful evening. Amazing work as always! Arigatō chīmu! ❤️ Thank you for the lovely welcome back.

Next week we’re heading to Eloise’s workplace, John Betts Primary School to lend a hand with some painting and organising of their cupboards. Please sign up here. Have a great rest of your week and weekend!

Plog standard gardening? Litter-ally never

Tuesday 20th August 2019

Written by Beth Nelson

A fantastic crowd of 26 GoodGym'ers turned out for two task Tuesday in H&F!

With two tasks lined up this evening it was great to see such a huge team of GoodGym'ers gathered ready to run and do good in their local community. It was lovely to welcome along Phoebe and Lizzie for their first GoodGym H&F run - thank you for coming along, hope you enjoyed it!

With the scaffolding still up in our regular warm-up spot we once again headed to our rather cosy makeshift warm-up spot. Before we got our pulses raised and blood pumping we had a quick run down of this week's news...

Have I got news for you...📰

  1. There are a limited number of £10 community entries for the Big Half in London on Sunday 1st March 2020. If you are interested in a £10 place, please drop me an email for the details.
  2. This Sunday is the monthly Morden Hall 10km and the monthly GoodGym Long Run - Tour of the Docklands.
  3. Rough Runner comes to Finsbury Park on Saturday 7th September, you can volunteer on the Saturday for a free place on the Sunday!
  4. Would you like to help in the event of an emergency? CAMERA (Coordinating and Mobilising Emergency Response Activists) project are looking for volunteers, all the details here.
  5. Ealing Half Marathon 2019 volunteers needed! Sunday 29th September, you'll receive a free bacon butty and race place for next year as a thank you! For all the details, click here.

After a little warm-up involving skips, ankle taps and fast feet we split off into our two groups for the evening...

Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden led by Catriona

A lucky 13 GoodGymmers headed up to the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden, which is a garden for the Centre's visitors who are elderly members of the African, Afro-Caribbean and Asian communities with Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. The Centre also runs a gardening club for families in Shepherds Bush living in temporary and overcrowded accommodation. Our task tonight was to tidy up ready for this Saturday's gardening club.

A labour of glove

To kick us off, Tom and Katie got very excited about their favourite weed clearing gadgets and set to work on the patio. Catherine and Naveed cleared out the greenhouse, emptying old soil out of pots ready to be re-used again. Sarah was nominated by the group as glove-sorter, Mo as plant waterer, Alice cut down some old signs from the fence outside, and everyone else got to work weeding, sweeping and dead-heading. After 30 minutes the garden looked spick and span, Susannah did some quick calculation about how much time we'd saved her (7.5 hours!), and we took a photo around the giant flower with triple Jo(h)nnies hiding at the back. Then back to base a different way for a stretch off.

Plogging led by Andrew

Andrew led the other 13 GoodGym’ers towards our first litter picking stop of the evening at Lillie Rec Park. When we got caught by the lights there was no-one stood still as we filled the time with jumping jacks and squats, and of course our weekly wall sit. On what I think would be described as the scenic route we arrived at the park and set about our mission to clean-up the park. The group spread out into smaller groups around the park so as to maximise our coverage. Andrew, Lizzie and Phoebe covered the children’s playground and discovered a t-shirt amongst numerous sweet wrappers, while Lucy and Steph claimed they picked up 397 cigarette butts from under the park benches! After 15 minutes there were 6 full bin bags that were responsibly disposed of in the park bins. And one final find by Matt of a dog tag.

A litter pick of this, and a litter pick of that!

Park clean-up complete we set off down and along the river next to the beautiful backdrop of the sunset towards the Crabtree Pub. The Crabtree Wharf is a beautiful inlet on the River Thames where litter-ally all the floating rubbish washes up and accumulates. This evening was the worst we’ve seen it! The team had a BIG challenge here. There were litter-ally hundreds of plastic bottles and bottle tops, about ten tennis balls, some less tasteful finds (the less said about these the better), a stuffed seagull that Maddy tested out for flight potential, and the biggest find of all, a marine radio! It felt like every possible piece of litter was down here with us. As the team filled bag after bag of litter, Chi helpfully handed out more bags from above and acted as a go between to the industrial waste bins by the pub - it very much resembled Rapunzel! We posed for a quick team photo with our loot (bags filled with litter!) and the stunning sunset before we called it a night. The transformation the team achieved in just 20 minutes was striking! I lost count of just how many bags that were filled but it must’ve been at least 30!

Litter picks completed we began our short run back to base along the river. With Chi ‘Mr Abs on Tour’ in our presence we were treated to a 2 minute abs blast of push-ups, tricep dips and a plank by Hammersmith Bridge. We pushed the pace for the final few metres before we had our stretch off back at base.

Great work tonight everyone. Thank you for coming along and for all your hard work.

Special shout outs to...📢🙌🏼

  • Everyone who raced at the Two Tunnels festival at the weekend - brilliant running and support by all and SO many PBs!!🥳. AND, a big well done to GoodGym H&F's running joke relay team...who are definitely not a running joke but in fact super speedy as they came 1st in the mixed 50km relay! 🏆
  • Maddy and Rob who were superhero sidekicks at the Superhero Tri (the one and only disability sports series) on Saturday in Windsor 🦸.

Phew!! What a week! Well done all. Next week we're flyering for the wonderful charity Family Friends. Sign up here. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend. Hopefully see you next week!
