Just Top Soil ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

Saturday 28th October 2023

Written by Jer Boon

Today we did our bit to clean up the environment for a future generation.

Specifically, we did some general garden/playground maintenance for one of our local nursery schools.

First we had to clear away some fallen and rotting apples.

Next, we we given some bags of top soil with which we topped up some old tyres to act as borders and/or stepping stones.

Those were the headline tasks, but being GoodGym we ticked them off in record time, so were given various other tasks. Various areas of weeding, tidying away toys, sweeping, Rachel even managed to fit in some carpet laying.

Congrats!

To Rachel for good deed number 50. We'll look out for the black GoodGym shirt in the near future! ๐Ÿ‘€

One First Steps for a man, one giant leap for mankind

Saturday 19th November 2022

Written by Jer Boon

Meyrick volunteered to lead a Group Run across town for what weโ€™re celebrating as his one hundredth good deed for GoodGym! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿš€

Big congratulations to Meyrick, who as our resident space aficionado hopefully appreciates the personalised pun for this rare astronomical event!

The pair of us met at the leisure centre to boldly go and run along the river to Twerton in order to help tidy the outdoor play space at First Steps Bath Opportunity Playgroup, where we also met with Jane.

Our mission was to tidy up the outdoor space - a space mission in other words - and clear away the scattering of toys and sweep the area so that the kiddies have a slightly nicer environment to return to on Monday.

We finished up, had a sneaky quick play in the treehouse, and went for a celebratory coffee.

Here's to the next hundred missions, Meyrick (or in other words Live long and prosper! ๐Ÿ––).

The end of the rainbow

Wednesday 19th May 2021

Written by Bath runner

Jane, Emily, Rachel and Sam met for a final session to finish painting the fabulous rainbow fence at First Steps in Twerton.

They may now also have some rainbow coloured paving! But overall the final look really brightens up the space and makes it a fun place for the children to enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks and well done to everyone who has helped out over the last few sessions to complete the project!

Nearing the end of the rainbow (fence!)

Thursday 6th May 2021

Written by Bath runner

4 runners spent Thursday evening continuing to brighten up the outdoor space at First Steps nursery - a job that was started a few weeks ago and rain has delayed play ever since!

Jane, Allie, Emily and Sam picked up the paint brushes to continue to quest to find the end of the rainbow (fence!)

We left with more paint on us than on the fence (particularly in Jane's hair!) but it is looking great and after one more session, the space will be fully transformed.

Somewhere (in Twerton) over the rainbow!

Wednesday 21st April 2021

Written by Sam Ollason

A group of us ran out to Twerton First steps nursery to brighten up their outside space. We spent the evening painting then fence around their play area.

We chose to go for what can only be described as a 'haphazard rainbow effect'. Although we didn't have any major spillages (which was impressive as there was a bit of slope we had to lunge/squat on!) there was more paint on my shoe when I left than when we started!

We look forward to coming back next week to finish the other half of the fence!

Easy come, easy grow

Wednesday 14th April 2021

Written by Helen Conner (she/her)

Rachel, Jane, Eleanor and Helen met at First Steps nursery in Twerton on a Wednesday evening.

The grass was long, there were lots of weeds in the beds and there were nettles. Our aim for the session, was to clear the garden of weeds, strim the grass and weed the beds ready for the children to plant in the garden and to be able to play safely.

We had just one hour to complete our mission. Eleanor and Rachel attacked the long grass with a strimmer, whilst Jane and Helen focussed on the weeds. Time fly by and before we knew it we had completed our mission.

Here is what our Task Owner had to say "We are all thrilled at the work that you did last night for the Twerton Community Nursery, so excited as this starts our Get Growing project, sponsored by Quartet!
Thank you very much indeed to you all!"
