Waving the magic pond

Monday 18th September 2023

Written by Steven Hitcham

It was a gorgeous evening in Eaton Park as we arrived as the sun was about to set over the park.

Our task was to give the pond area a good clean up, which consisted of cutting back some overgrown bushes, sweeping up leaves and a litter pick.

Sweep to the beat of the drum

Monday 5th December 2022

Written by Bobby B

Seven GoodGymmers met at the Forum on a damp and cold Monday evening! We always have a good warm up and Steven puts us through our paces, this time we did some shuttle runs through Norwich's mesmeric light tunnel. Not wishing to be late however we set off into the good night running as a group to Eaton Park. Bobby was back runner. No-one gets left behind! We arrived in good time and met the rest of the gang, ten of us in total. However the organiser briefly threw a curveball by getting us to head to the bandstand to pick up tools - brooms and hand spades where we were met by a drummer band from Extinction Rebellion. Running back to the community centre we promptly set about sweeping the leaves and weeding between the cracks. We bustled around getting the job done in decent time. The place looked cleaner and significantly cleaner! After we collected half a dozen bags of leaves we emptied these out in the nearby woodland copse creating neat habitat piles for hibernating hedgehogs. We ran back to the bandstand to the beat of the drums - Steven's dancing did not however impress upon the group too much!! As we said goodbye to those not returning to the Forum. The gang headed back head torches blazing deep in to the winter evening.

One for Ali and Ali for one

Sunday 13th November 2022

Written by Steven Hitcham

This weeks task was solely about paying our respects by visiting the new memorial of our late member Ali, who sadly took his own life a couple of years ago.

We did a litter pick on the way and shared some great memories of Ali, one of the fondest being him standing on a pile of horse p00 in his brand new white trainers.

Bill was completing his 200th good deed so a big well done to him!

A thank you to Katy for making some yummy buns for us to eat.

Litter Picking, Cycle Pacing and Paw Patrol in the park

Saturday 14th November 2020

Written by Norwich runner

I left the house in the drizzle (I was a bit late as I managed to sleep 10 hours straight, it has been a busy week). I had in had my own personal litter picker - £13 from Amazon - litter picking just got serious.

Jess and Tim came out with me too as Jess was going to cycle for 9 laps around the park on her bike. This was to take part in the 'Act Your Age Challnege' for her Brownie unit and Children in Need. Somehow the 9 little laps totalled to 4 miles, I didn't think I would be doing quite that much this morning. I litter picked on the way to our start point, ran alongside Jess and litter picked around the park and on the way back home.

Here's a list of the finds -

Soda Can ( I do think Beer cans need to go on this list) Candy Wrapper
Bottle Cap/Lid Paper Straw fast food wrapper toy piece of plastic foil of foil piece of plastic

also -

Bike bungee thing with hooks Juice cartons Dog bags (the poopless ones of course)

My favourite of all of these was a character from (Paw Patrol I think) - I left him on the school gates in hope of a reunion.

It felt good to have the Goodgym top on again and to mix exercise with doing good.

Parking Mad

Tuesday 1st September 2020

Written by Steven Hitcham

Helen and 12 GoodGymers took the challenge of giving Eaton Park a clean up after the bank holiday weekend.

A big welcome to Liz who was taking part in her 1st good deed with us.

We separated into small groups and did tasks such as litter picking, cleaning benches and cleaning the park signs - to make the park look refreshing.

It was lovely to have a catch up at the end too :-)
