We were (b)on fire clearing the park

Monday 7th November 2022

Written by Sallyann Hardwick

Twenty bags of rubbish collected by a committed team who were fired up to make a difference. Thirlmere Park is a little gem nestled away creating a green space which is used for community events as well as providing some space for nature to breathe. November 5th had left it devastated, littered and burnt. Task owner Rachel who is so committed to the park started the clear up joined by Goodgym. A big shout out to Sian for her first task and kudos to the whole team for being adaptive as some last minute changes came into play. Some sessions you just feel the warmth passion and drive of everyone and tonight's mission was one of those times. This Monday showed the enormity that can be achieved when people come together to make a difference. Twenty bags of rubbish, a collection of smiles that lit up the dark night and a clearer park.

… and a partridge in a pair tree

Monday 23rd May 2022

Written by Sophie McClellan

After a last minute change of plans, the runners met on Hope Street where we welcomed Romano for his first group run! It's lovely to have you on board.

4 runners ran the 3km from hope street up to Thirlmere Park where we were met by 3 others (plus Toby the spaniel) and Creative Spaces who look after the park.

Kudos to Heetu who made her first run post covid look like a breeze!

We have been to the park a couple of times before and it is always in need of some tlc! Fortunately this kept us well occupied and lead to some interesting (?) finds - a hoover, 2 suitcases and a dogbed were among the litter this time!?

All in all we managed to collect 15 bags of rubbish, 2 Suitcases, a hoover, a large dog bed, a cone, and a naked umbrella all whilst fitting in some cuddles with Toby!

Well done to everyone who took part - I think it's fair to say we definitely left the park a considerably nicer place to be than when we arrived.

It’s our birthday and we’ll litter pick if we want to!

Monday 21st March 2022

Written by Sophie McClellan

To celebrate Goodgym Liverpool's 4th Birthday, we teamed up with Create Spaces Co. for a good old fashioned litter pick.

After a (slightly) longer run than usual to Thirlmere park, we set to work straight away, scouring the park for any unwanted litter. Kudos to Pauline for the most unusual find of the evening - an electric fan heater!

Within half an hour we were pooped, and definitely ready for cake! The 18 backs of litter collected showed we deserved it too!

Party hats on and cake in hand we headed the 2.2 miles back to Hope Street. Well done to everyone for their hard work in making a lovely green space that little bit more lovely.

Wild (flower) Thing!

Saturday 10th July 2021

Written by Jo G

Thirlmere Park in Liverpool, a stone's throw from the Anfield stadium, was the setting for today's Community Mission. The park is one of the smaller ones in the city and apart from a children's playground and a basketball court, is currently almost all given over to a wildflower meadow - poppies, cornflowers, ox-eye daisies and many others. These were in full bloom today and it was good to litter pick and sweep up so that they could be seen in all their multicoloured glory. We were joined by Creative Spaces Co and Jimmy from Alley Angels today - it was great to see you! As it's a small park, we were able to clean up all of it, filling 11 bin bags between us in little over an hour. Mystery objects found included a bike saddle, a child's coat, and the winner of the Most Interesting Object Found on a Litter Pick - a child's pushchair!

Sparkling Clean!!

Monday 4th November 2019

Written by John Connaghan

On a night of celebrations, Goodgym came together to litter pick and celebrate some milestones.

Serious kudos to Emma and Sam for hitting the 50 good deeds! Not to be sneezed at even in this weather. However Pauline, with her 150 good deeds, is surely Goodgym royalty now! Alright Queen!!

We checked out each red light on our way out of town and soon got some momentum up the hill to Breck Road. Running past our target, we went down to Kitty's Launderette to meet Rachael of Creative Spaces. Quickly armed with bags and pickers, we returned to the park whilst watching an impressive fireworks display!

With several bags filled and new friends from the park wholeheartedly endorsing our good work, we retreated to bring some sparkle to our evening despite the rain.

Off we went on our return leg, spotting the green Radio City Tower and getting the rub of the green with the traffic lights on the way home.

Kudos to Becky B for backmarking and well done everyone, we got 8k in 🙂
