The (Catton) Lake

Saturday 24th February

Written by Elizabeth H

A crisp, sunny morning saw 252 leap out of bed, saw the sunshine and thought yes, no rain! Indeed no rain today but a week of wet weather and THE Catton Lake was indeed The Lake. The course overall was slippy in places. The run briefing reminded us of this. Volunteering today was more of a pleasure & most of us agreed we were wearing too many layers! Today myself and Bill were volunteering, very pleased not to be negotiating that pesky Lake

Saturday 17th February

Written by Elizabeth H

It was a mild 12degrees this Parkrun morning and 332 turned out to enjoy it to. We had tourists and 2 first timers and our very own Catton Parkrun Dan who was dressed in an inflatable Giraffe outfit which he was trying out for his Cambridge Half Marathon run which he is running raising money for BREAK Charity. Goodgymers running today were Rob R, Katie (&buggy), Jonathan, & Alina. For me barcode scanning it was off to Waterloo Park for Goodgym gardening mission

Tailwalker #2

Saturday 10th February

Written by Elizabeth H

Tailwalker again today with our lovely young person DoE on her last few weeks with us, tackling the Tailwalker role. All went well until the person we were behind decided to finish after the first time round which, of course, doesn’t matter but for us Tailwalkers who have to be behind the last people, we had to sprint up the middle path & cut across the field to catch up with the Parkwalkers at the oak tree. Job done we continued our role but felt we’d cheated but we made up km by having to walk further round the Catton “lake” than normal. It may have been very muddy today but the weather was lovely.

Keeping time & Tokens

Saturday 27th January

Written by Elizabeth H

377 people arrived for a Parkrun/walk on a sunny crisp morning. Volunteering today was certainly not as cold/wet and the last few week thank goodness. Emily was on Finish Token duty & I was Timekeeper. I was Timekeeper with Isla on her first time in that role. She is one of 3 young people doing their DOE with Catton Parkrun. Well done to them all. Lots of Goodgymers attending today, Brad, Bobby, Rob R, Robert O, Alina, Maddy, Roisin, Beks (with Emrys, welcome back) Katie buggy running, & Bill. Well done everyone

Cold Cold Parkrun

Saturday 20th January

Written by Elizabeth H

No frost on my car this morning lulled you into a false sense of the temperature but I still had MANY layers on Being a volunteer means remembering, double socks, hat, scarf, & a pair or two of gloves. 313 people braved the cold to run/walk/jog Catton Park including 2 first timers to Parkrun very well done to them, if you can brave this cold you can brave anything, well maybe not torrential rain! One of the Catton regulars walked the course on his 93rd birthday, well done Ken, an inspiration to us all. Goodgymers running today, Kathryn, Rachel, Jonathan, Bobby, Rob R,Roisin & Katie L ( buggy running) . Well done everyone

Sliding into 2024

Saturday 6th January

Written by Steven Hitcham

It goes to show that runners really don't care what the weather or conditions are like. GoodGym Norwich did a Catton parkrun takeover, so luckily we didn't have to run it ourselves but a few hundred people did run/walk through mud and puddles to complete their 5km.

I don't think many of them would have returned home mud free.

Well done to all the GG volunteers who took on several of the volunteering roles today. Next week we're at Sloughbottom parkrun for a takeover there.
