To mark the end of the Easter weekend, the best of Lewisham (and Greenwich) met at Glass Mill to run to Ladywell Fields to try and get to the end of the pile of woodchip.
Focusing on one woodchip pile this week, we began shovelling and wheelbarrowing and carrying bucket full of woodchip to the hedge saplings.
It was a good strength workout and we definitely got our steps in as some hedge saplings were quite far from the pile of woodchip.
With all saplings mulched and the pile much smaller than when we arrived it was time to say our goodbyes and head back to Glass Mill.
We've helped plant and care for these hedge saplings over the past couple of years so it's wonderful to see them growing.
Thanks to Ivar for the pun!
Next week we are heading to The Albany which will be around 4.5km run in total and we'll be joined by the garden team so expect more tasks like shovelling and woodchip over the usual litter pick.

I did this task a couple of days early when I turned up to volunteer at the Wildcat Wilderness (a community green space) and Maria said ‘does anyone want to litter pick?’! We don’t often have that task, so I thought it was perfectly timed. I spent a couple of hours collecting litter and moving broken glass from the woodland which will make it safe for the children attending the forest school.
The sun was coming through the trees and I even saw the start of a few bluebells coming through. A lovely spot to reflect while trying to make the world a little bit nicer. ❤️

As Paul B was on holiday he couldn't do his regular weekly Community Connections mission of helping deliver Mr V’s weekly food shop, so I stepped in instead. When I arrived at Mr V's house, he already had a lovely list prepared. We went through it together and added a couple more items for good measure!
At his local Asda, most of what he wanted was in stock — apart from raspberries. He later told me strawberries would have been an acceptable substitute… I’ll remember that for next time! All in all, he seemed really pleased with what I brought back.
On the way home, I realised I’d clocked almost 8 miles walking from Charlton to Deptford and back. Naturally, I felt this deserved a quick stop at the Green Goddess for some well-earned refreshment. As it turned out, they had a beer festival on, and I got chatting to a few people — it took some effort to eventually prize myself away and continue home!
All in all, a mission successfully accomplished.

It was a pleasure stepping in for Community Connections Lewisham to assist the lovely Ms Y, who sadly struggles with mobility, by helping with her weekly grocery shopping.
Now she’s all set with her easy-to-peel favourites! 🧡

24 hours later, GoodGymer Chandrima returned to collect the clean, fresh, and dry laundry from the local laundrette and deliver it straight to sweet Miss E’s house, ensuring she has clean towels and fresh bedding at hand.
Miss E, unable to carry heavy loads herself, truly appreciated this help from the start. 🫧💖

GoodGymer Chandrima assisted for Community Connections Lewisham by helping the sweet Miss E transport one large bag of necessary laundry (towels and bedding) to the local laundrette. This assistance spared her a journey and kept her washing on track! 🫧
