GoodGym love a PLAY on words!

Tue 22 Mar
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

We had a Spring in our step at last night's weekly group run. We met at Life Leisure Cheadle with the sun shining and a reminder that the lighter nights are finally coming!

Our task for the evening was to help Heald Green Community Theatre to deliver a bulk of their flyers, to promote their up and coming community performance.

Heald Green Theatre is an amateur not for profit theatre so not for profit and registered charity. They run heavily subsidised Drama classes for children aged 7 to 18 so that they’re affordable for all. They keep going simply by putting on plays and then ploughing the ticket revenue back into paying the energy bills, insurances etc so its a hard slog every year for them!

They currently have a play 'Bothered and bewildered' and required help to make a dent in the delivery of 3000 leaflets around the Gatley area.

So off we set, 5 GoodGymers with a spring in our step and flyers in hand. We covered an impressive 7.5km distributing the leaflets to the local area, had a good old catch up and embraced the lighter nights!

Tue 8 Mar
Report written by Celtic Murray

Yesterday's group run involved a lengthy run to the Social Supermarket.

We got our hands messy (literally!) and enjoyed painting some wooden chairs for the benefit of volunteers for the Social Supermarket.

We welcomed a GoodGym Tourist- Pete from Stockport! It was lovely to have him with us.

Getting trollied with Re:dish

Tue 8 Feb
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Last night's GoodGym Stockport group run saw 6 GoodGymers getting trollied down at Re:dish, a local charity. We welcomed back Jo, on her second task and also two Stockport newbies from Tom and Meera! We had a 'mixed bag' of Stockport oldies, newbies and tourists!

Our task took us back to the days of Supermarket Sweep, with Morrisons, Reddish, kindly lending 8 of their gleaming silver trolleys to enable us to help Re:dish to move their donated Summer stock to a local Safe Store storage facility.

Our run began at Life Leisure Houldsworth, with Kirsty and Pete energetically adding distance to their run by running to the start point! Bonus miles!

We set off in convoy to collect the trolleys and donated goods, roughly 60 bags full, from Re:dish. Our task was to trolley dash the good to the local Safe Store facility, ready for them to be brought into the shops for the summer season. What a trolley dash it was!

Once at the storage facility, we tactically created a chain and slide converyorbelt to manoeuvre the bags up the unit.

We had bags of fun getting trollied!.

Shifting boxes into storage for Re-Dish

Tue 8 Feb 17:45 pm

Help the charity to create more space

What is GoodGym?

We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every week to get active and do a physical task to help the charities and community organisations and projects in our area.

The Task

Re:dish is a charity that aims to improve the lives of everybody in Reddish.

Amongst other things, they aim to:

*Improve the lives of all people in Reddish; *Identify and reduce food poverty by providing no-cost and low-cost food, by using local *expertise to encourage healthy nutrition and by teaching the growing and cooking of fresh food; *Identify and reduce individual isolation by reconnecting people to networks of help and support; *Encourage the whole community to work together across age and culture barriers, sharing knowledge and skills;

Re-Dish have a local store in Reddish, which provides the main funding for the charity. At the store, they have boxes of donations that they are in need of moving to a storage facility (kindly donated to them by Safestore) in Reddish. Morrisons have agreed to provide trolleys to aid the transportation of the boxes from the store to the storage facility, but Re-Dish are in need of a helping hand with the heavy lifting and trolley shifting.

A great weighted run!

The Run/walk

GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners of all abilities and it is often possible to walk to the task if you would prefer. We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.

We will meet at Life Leisure Houldsworth at 5:45pm on Tuesday 8th February and set off on foot the Re-Dish store. From there, we will load the trolleys with boxes and push the trolleys down to the storage facility, working up a sweat as we go!

*Parking facilities available *Toilet facilities available *Bring facemask for indoor communal areas *Bring headtorch/reflective wear for night running *

BeLEAFLET in your SHELF

Tue 25 Jan
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Last night's group run saw 6 fabulous GoodGymers attend to hand deliver leaflets for Stockport Libraries, pacing the residential areas of Brinnington on a crisp dry night.

Stockport Libraries are trying to encourage local residents to make use of the incredible facilities that Brinnington Library has to offer. From toddler story time to a chatty cafe to ancestry tracing and the standard book checkout service, it really does have it all.

We were lucky enough to welcome our very own task owner, Jenni, on the task - to light the way with her knowledge of the local area and join us for her very first GoodGym run!

Massive shout out to Jo, who absolutely smashed her first GoodGym session - we hope to see you at many more to come! ☺️

To add to GoodGym mix, our resident GoodGym central team member and Sheffield residents, Yusra, travelled across the Pennines to clock up those miles for the January Challenge... and ran until the bitter end, making sure she finished with a round 5km mileage!

Our 5km run took us to a gleaming maze of new-brick houses, and the destination for our leaflet drop. Like little mice, we scurried and posted from door to door... meeting a few residents along the way and spreading the word.

To celebrate the end our run, we had a mini celebration parade to award Rob a well deserved medal for kindly (daftly?) taking on a chunk of our area activators miles in the Run Up To Christmas.

Tuesday, we smashed it mate! 💪

Would you be-leaf that the parks of Cheadle were clean?

Tue 9 Nov
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

It may have been a drizzly Tuesday evening but our headtorches lit the way for our Cheadle Park Plogging and Jogging task.

The awesome foursome made our way on foot to the eery Abney Hall Park estate, ready to clean the park of any debris.

We searched amongst the leaves and brambles for any unwanted rubbish to collect and bin. The dark night, misty sky and gothic hall made for a great setting for ghost tales! We even unearthed a pet cemetery nestled between the house orchards.

Pete gave us the much awaited reviews of Dynasty - great fruity curry sauce but small portions! And as a standard, we discussed food, bake off and the protection of Kirsty's hair after wash night!

After filtering a bag of rubbish from the park, we headed back to complete our 7km group run.

And we left in great 'spirit'
