Helping out at Paradise cooperative garden

Mon 6 Jun 18:45 pm
Paradise Cooperative Garden, 19 Heathfield Rd, London, SW18 3JE
Yurt cleaning and wood chip spreading

The beautiful Paradise Cooperative garden was created from an abandoned and overgrown site into a beautiful smallholding for local people with the original aim of finding and utilising underdeveloped land for urban growing and community gardening.

They have asked for come help dispersing some wood chip through out the garden and also lending a hand to clean their famous yurt so that they can use it post lockdown.

You can either meet Lorna at the Battersea Arts Centre at 18:30 for a run together to the garden, or go directly to the garden at 18:45 for the task.

One off mission to help the volunteers at St Mary's church

Wed 25 May 18:00 pm
St Mary's church , Balham High Rd, London, SW12 9BS
Shifting mulch from a school to the church!

Ravenstone School opposite St Mary's church have offered the volunteer group lots of leaf mould for mulching the beds. There is a large bin of it that needs moving the stuff across Balham High Road in bags and wheelbarrows.

The volunteers are really grateful for the help as it would take them ages on their own, so it would make a big difference.

Setting up tables for a Community Fun Day

Sat 25 Jun 08:00 am
Gatton School, Broadwater Road, London, SW17 0EF
Perfect pre parkrun or early morning Saturday mission that would really help support the community

Moving about 60-80 tables is a big task requiring strength and stamina. It's hard to find enough volunteers able to carry out this task, so support from Goodgym would be invaluable. It will set the event off to a good start and boost morale.

Before the Fun Day begins, a large number of trestle tables need to be taken out of storage and put up around the event site. This needs to be done starting 8am so that the site is fully ready when the event opens to the public at 12 noon. Breakfast (coffee and pastries) will be provided.

Your point of contact on the day will be Kate Allan, and her number is 07966 690308 in case of any problems.

Hanging around.....

Mon 24 Jan
Report written by Liv Wicks

.... except we weren't hanging around. Within just over an hour, 4 of us had shifted 15 or so suitcases from the shed outside the community centre, back into the community centre, unpacked them, repacked them for rough sleepers, and placed them read to be collected by the van tomorrow. It's my run report and I'll do a rubbish pun if I want to!

Liv Wicks has run 100 good deeds with GoodGym. Mon 24 Jan 2022

Liv has just reached another level: 100 good deeds with GoodGym. That's at least 100 times when they could have easily done something easier. But they didn't, Liv has kept going and going. Helping a lot of other people and getting a bit fitter at the same time. Congratulations Liv.

Blessings all round

Sat 22 Jan
Report written by Liv Wicks

Mrs L was my inspo to shake off my tiredness and get out into the Saturday sun. She was also better value than my overpriced gym classes. In the 45 minutes I was tidying up her front garden, she provided me with many tips on how to lift properly and warned me of the struggles of a bad back later in life. In under an hour I'd removed all the dead leaves and washed down her front path with hot water and bleach. Her pride in her house made me think I needed to take the washing down that had been hanging up all week as soon as I got home. She also insisted in cleaning the mud of my trainers before I left, they ended up being much cleaner than when I arrived. As I went to walk down the path Mrs L looked at her fresh front garden and declared "Well today I am blessed, and you are too Liv" and that right there, is GoodGym.

Packing Bags of Essentials

Mon 24 Jan 18:00 pm
St Faith's Community Centre, Red Post Hill, London, SE24 9JQ
for rough sleepers

Get Rid Of And Donate (GROAD) do amazing work making use of unused STUFF, donated to them by the public. We've previously helped them pack Christmas presents and toys for local kids and helped sort and relocate their stock.

Now Andrea has asked if we can give them a hand packing bags of essentials (blankets, clothes and toiletries etc.) for rough sleepers which will then be distributed on the Strand in central London !

The task is at St Faith's Church Hall, near North Dulwich station and we need at least 5 people!

Please bring a mask as the task will be inside 🤿
