Party
Portsmouth

We are 3 years old.

Sun 9 May
Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson

The first of our 3rd birthday celebrations took place online, in keeping with the current rules and regs but we hope to have some in person celebrations over the summer which are guaranteed to include "too much" food.

Tonight's quiz reminded us why we love GoodGym with some photos between rounds to prompt memories of tasks gone by! The rounds were:

  • How well do you know GG Portsmouth (a bit tricky for our newer recruits!)
  • All about May.... with a cameo from Anita Dobson 😂
  • Three is the magic number (mega points unless you think Dachshund is a reindeer)
  • Music round (the one without a beard is Frank Beard 🧔)

Congratulations to Jen who won with 39 points. No stewards enquiry required!

Party outfits (bonus points if they'd come from one of our charity shop visits); GG tees; glitter; fake beards; eyeliner and hats all made an appearance tonight, looking good GoodGym!

Lovely to see all your smiling faced. Look forward to getting together soon (hopefully in the sunshine too ☀)

Ickles out of a pickle

Sun 28 Feb
Report written by Katie Carew-Robinson

The Ickle Pickles charity who raise money for neo natal units in the area are struggling to raise funds as a lot of their usual sources are shut due to lockdown.

In preparation for events once things start to reopen they put out a request for raffle prizes.

As always, the GoodGym members did not disappoint with a huge variety of prizes donated: chocolates, biscuits, bath products, body creams, scarves, virtual workouts, books, toys and a whole heap of other things. Luckily the person collating it all for us doesn't live far from me as it was a lot to carry!!

Big thanks to all from Ickle Pickles!

Raffle-tastic

Sun 28 Feb 19:00 pm
From your home, Any city, Any postcode
Help raise money to help premature babies

Have you got any unwanted Christmas gifts lying about or some smellies that you bought but didn't use? A box of chocolates that you're trying to resist? Anything edible needs a long date in it!

Ickle Pickles are collecting raffle prizes for when they can run their events again. They can make up gift baskets from a number of donations if necessary so don't worry if it's only something small.

If you have anything that could fit the bill then please drop it round to me (PO3 5AS), just let me know when you're planning to do it so I can let you know where to leave it!

Items will be quarantined and passed on to our local Ickle Pickles fundraiser.

The Jab Place

Thu 4 Feb
Report written by Lucy Booth

A quieter afternoon with the usual roles. Lovely to see my friend and neighbour Sue helping out! We should have been on a girls weekend tomorrow..... Lily on the door, meet and greet, Sue and Mel sharing the back door and inside church roles, and Lucy on waiting room escort. No dramas, and a fabulous home made chocolate cornflakes traybake to keep us going. Note the lack of dressing room, merely a dressing cupboard. No divas here...

What a wild life we lead in lockdown!

Wed 3 Feb
Report written by Kat Bruce

Twelve Goodgymers took to the paths and streets to look for animals on buildings around them. They could be real, sculptures, signs, graffiti etc. And what an amazing and diverse collection was seen! Maura was our winner with an incredible 14 spots and also the earliest entry in! I particularily like the animals on the door. Well done :-)

Sarah was runner up for how many were spotted with a fabulous 12! They were also agreat collection of variety of how we represent animals all around us in our city architecture and sculpture.

Special mentions also go to Catherine who found the most real animals (and are we glad that these reports won't let me post the video of a rat??...)

Katie also found so many she sorted her finds into two collages of jolly grafiti and shop signs. Good effort!

Val found an amazing number of statues in her neighbourhood gardens and Judy got the best photo of the thatched Pheasant!

Lynn where on earth is this Swan on a bike?!

Sinéad great spotting getting the spire cockrel!

Rosie found a very serene griffin - love it!

Rachel was stealthy enough to find the most live cats!

Lily found a lost Sophie the girraffe and a sitting duck!

Finally, I found a life size cow on the roof of the Pheonix pub garden which I had never noticed before!

And Breathe

Wed 27 Jan
Report written by JULIA GLEESON

This was the 1st of my weekly lockdown core and stretch sessions.

It was great to see Paula and Belinda finding their zen and lovely that Lily from Portsmouth also joined us.

We focused on using our breath to lengthen and mobilise our hamstrings and back muscles whilst using the music to relax our minds.

Same time next week!

Ooh la la!

Wed 27 Jan
Report written by Judy Knapp

What a variety of French related photos were collected on runs, walks and staying at home!

Maura did a bike ride around Portsmouth and collected French-themed road names and signage from car manufacturers.

Katie took beautiful tricoleur photos, as well as showing some old French language books and running memorabilia from around her home.

Lily snapped French signage and entwined lovers as well as a lovely memory of a non-socially distanced race in France: Bravo Les Filles!

And in Eastbourne I snapped the old and the new at the Wish Tower - a 19th century Martello tower, built as a defence against Napoleon, which now has a 21st century French Bistro, looking out across the Channel.

A different focus for our exercise outings this week.
