Shovelling sh*t for a good cause

Hackney Report written by Even Alin

On a sunny summer's eve, the good folk of Hackney GC found themselves shovelling shit for a good cause, namely preparing the ground for a new hedgerow at Hackney City Farm.

Fun was had by all (I think), and the team at the farm we're grateful for the help.

I know you're all on the edge of your seats wondering; will they finish this Herculean task, will someone fall into the mound of shit (probably), will Chi ever do any work when he turns up (probably not) and who genuinely thinks this task has had a life-changing impact on their lives (all of us - we're now scarred).

For more on this, watch this space for the next thrilling instalment of this epic adventure.

Donโ€™t Band So Close To Me

Tower Hamlets Report written by Laura Williams

A hot, humid Monday was no match for tonight's GoodGym runners who turned up in a whopping group of 12 for this evening's Monday Meath fitness session.

We welcomed first time runners, Tj, Stephanie and Geir before starting with a stretch; proceeding to some mobility and balance work, before tackling tonight's drills and speedwork.

We then whizzed through our mini-band workout but be sure there was nothing mini about this workout. We tackled lower body, abs and core and upper body, before finishing with our favourite greyhound-and-hare speedy lap of the park, and calling it a night with our Peaceful Music playlist, and some stretches under the sky.

We then said our farewells.

Well, some of us did while others headed off with Stephen, (Task Force Pro, who's heading up our new social squad), to the pub. What a great way to end your first GoodGym event - well done everyone.

Another lovely evening, working hard, enjoying one another's company, looking forward to sociable summer get togethers.

Sun in a Million

Tower Hamlets Report written by Laura Williams

What a start to the week.

There we were in picturesque, spacious Meath Gardens, with the blue, blue sky; the refreshing breeze and the best company in town.

Tonight's team of 15 was a cheerful one. We took great delight in welcoming Leonaโ€‹ to her first training session; said hello to familiar faces, some of whom had joined from the 6pm task at Hollybush Gardens.

And then the work began.

We whizzed through 50 minutes of:

  • Laps and running drills, ranging from hip mobility to knee strike; hamstring-activators and stride lengths.
  • Standing core work, focusing on recruiting those deep abdominals, glutes, and balance skills.
  • Floor work focusing on abs; rotator cuff muscles, glutes - and more core stability.
  • The greyhound-and-hare game, helping to tick those speedwork boxes.
  • Much-needed stretching.

And then that, as they say, was a wrap.

We dispersed promptly, into the setting sun, bidding one another farewell, and looking forward to next week. So, until then!

The Graveyard shift

Tower Hamlets Report written by Leo

Tonight 9 of us met at the pleasant time of 6pm on a lovely balmy evening on East London at a Tower Hamlet fave location of Hollybush gardens.

It was a tale of two tasks with us initially finishing off a job from a few weeks ago, along one side of the Ellsworth street square, where a couple more planters needed weeding, including tying up daffodils so that they aren't "blind" next year (who would have thought..) and removing some poppies and potatoes.

There was a lot of excited chatter as the team worked hard, with everyone pleased to be reunited with familiar faces and in the fresh air on a delightful Monday evening.

After that was wrapped up, we were back to Rocky Park to blitz what Margaret affectionally terms "The Graveyard" which is in fact a strip of paving between the allotments and the fence. It was beset with weeds which the team tackled with a winning combination of hoes and brooms - just as the clock ticked around to 7pm we had essentially cleared the path, much to Margaret's delight.

After a quick wrap up and customary group photo, we dispersed to enjoy the rest of our evenings with some of the team heading to nearby Meath Garden's for Laura's Sun in a Million workout for yet more GoodGym fun.

Special mention to Leona for her second ever GoodGym task - hope to see you at many more in the near future Leona! ๐Ÿ‘
