Lest We Forget

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

This week we moved our usual Monday night session to today in order to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The task was relatively straightforward -a litter pick around the memorial park. However, the run part was more like up and down and round and round.

We met at the pond which was not smelling of roses and pretty pitch black around the area... lucky for us Ricky came dressed as a lightbulb!

With a warm (that I soon regretted after pairing up with Claire that involved mirroring your partner, we headed off deep into the park to do some lamppost to lamppost intervals followed by a meet and retreat!

Eva and Jessica then saved the day by joining us for the litter pick and laying the wreath.

We had a lovely walk n talk into the gardens as we collected any rubbish we could find all the way to the memorial plaque.

Here, we laid the beautiful wreath made by Antz Kids and held a 2 minute silence to pay our respects.

This was a really lovely, moving yet simple session enjoyed by everyone.

As Eva and Jess walked back home, leaving the rest of us to do some Sally squats and then spend the rest of the evening working out how to use tik tok! Sadly we didnt 'save' the video!

Thank you for a memorable evening!

Picking up on Britwell

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

So tonight should have been our first task helping a local church in Britwell. We were raring to go having met up in Kennedy Park but sadly the task owner was not around to let us in. We hope all is well with him and will check up on him in the morning.

Grab an opportunity

Most people have maybe a jerry can in their boot or shopping bags, mine has a Royal Mail sack full of litter pickers on the off chance that a task falls through just like tonight.

So with our backup plan in place, we decided to crack on with the fitness.

Core blimey my legs burn

After a 'follow the leader' and 'category' games for warm up we did some leg strengthening work and a trio core set!

And because that wasn't enough 4 rounds of hill reps were the order of the day before the real fun began.

Shall we go for a drink?

Never surprises us that beer cans are the order of the day in every park we litter pick!

There is something theraputic about litter picking

Said Eva, on her first litter pick task with us.

We actually had a lovely time chatting and clearing rubbish in a new end of town.

Thank you to everyone who came along today.

Next week we are back at the allotment on Stoke Rd on Monday, meeting up on Shaggy Calf Lane and walking /running down to the task.

Colour Instinct

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

We had a return visit to a lovely primary school this evening, with the task of painting a wendy house.

Knowing we would need gloves Eva turned up with her farming gloves which took over her whole body - we kept her at arm's length tonight!

With three vibrant colours to choose from, we split up into 2 teams of 2 and a lone ranger.

Sara with her painting knowledge and skills was given the intricate task of the orange paint (yellow to Eva) for the window frames.

Pam and Eva were green with envy when they saw how Royalist Blue Jessica and I were!

A few minor mishaps never hurt anyone except Sara... whose line of the night was...

Perfection takes time

She's not wrong there...we did also get a ticking off for being a bit heavy handed on the amount of paint on the brushes... but hey ho... we know we are always in good art with Sara... she's got skills... plus it was her birthday!

Great task which will require a repeat visit soon... we told Alpita, our task owner... no problem!

We are available wendy four seven!

Cabbage patch kids

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

This was a day of firsts

  • First time helping out Ace Preschool

  • First task for Jessica

  • First non fitness session for Alison

It was Eva who introduced us to Charmaine from Ace Preschool a few weeks ago, so it was lovely to have a task owner (Eva), find us a task and then join GoodGym and come along to her second task!

On arrival, Charmaine gave us the brief after telling us she thought we looked like The Calender Girls (I jumped at being Miss December!!)

The kiddies garden was delightful, with its little potted plants, strawberries and flowers.

Jessica on her initiation task cracked on in true GoodGym spirit by turning over her patch.

Pam, Alison and Gauri had a few patches between them that they unearthed, turned over and made look brand new!!

Sandy and I had the main section on the left that Charmaine wanted a wave effect on. We gave it our best creative efforts until Kam came and showed us how its done!

Eva had the best patch! She was Mrs Clippy with the clippers clip clip clipping away giving the hedge a well needed haircut! She did such a great job she actually managed to hide in it!

Great little task for a bit of Monday motivation.
