Fair promotions at the hill-ton

Bristol Report written by Bristol runner

24 runners met to go up, up and away in their beautiful platoon to help spread the word about Golden Hill Community Garden's Spring Fair.

This run was not for the faint-hearted and our striders in red showed their mettle and conquered the 2.5 mile climb to the garden where we met one of the Lucys involved in the project. The garden is open to all and gives everyone the opportunity to get their hands dirty and learn about nature. Their spring fair is a chance for them to really show off what they've got and raise some money to enable them to keep up the good work.

My group of pacey possums reached Lucy first and were sent out to in groups to deliver flyers and put up posters. Jade, who was returning for her second run with us, teamed up with Ian as the poster runners of the group showing they could really cut their stuff and shake that string.

Soon after the second group arrived fresh from sumitting the cobbled hill like a speedy version of the Hovis advert. Imagine that the little lad was being chased by an angry otter after he had hit him while riding his bike recklessly day-dreaming about bread and dripping, and this had caused the otter to drop a beautiful fish casserole he had made for his mum with it being mothering otters day and all. Yeah, something like that...

The second group took on Longmead Avenue in three teams, the uppers, down lefters and the down right legends. As the run to the task was a long one we did not have much time but the guys went straight to it and fair play to them they sprung into action instantly and leaf-let allotment of people know what was going on.

We all met back for a group photo and then enjoyed the down hill cruise back to Queen Square. The Pacey Possums performed some strong plank work and then began some marching drills before being joined by the Legendary Leisure Patrol.

After the drills we stretched and all the wonderful things that were coming up. We also need to say a massive

CONGRATULATIONS TO CENTURION LISA!!!!

I am the wall-wash

This evening we ran 3 miles to help Way Out West, a neighbourhood action group in Bedminster who work together to improve any neglected local areas to make them accessible again.

With a few new faces and plenty of friendly familiar grins too we warmed up.

She met he, he met she and they met me,
and we were all together.
See how we run like pigs from a gun,
see how we fly!

Splitting into two groups,
running to the task to come.
Most in GoodGym t-shirts, on a chilly Tuesday,
Man we were full of joy,
you make the run go strong.

On arrival we were met by Stef from the project who gave us an overview of what they do and what our tasks for the evening were. 18 took up buckets and clothes to wash walls in preparation for the much needed paint job we will be assisting with on Saturday 8th May. The rest took to the streets to clear up litter.

Expert, texpert litter pokers,
Won't let any disgards slip on through.
See how it change from pigs in a sty
See how it shines
We're flying!

Caroline and Richard
Climbing up the plastic tower.
Wiping and a scrubbing smelling much fresher,
Man, you should have seen them smashing off the dirt as they go.

Soon we had cleaned all of the walls and the streets in the area were litter free. With some time to spare and a whole hall to use it was only right that I take the stage to direct a little exercise session. We lunged, squatted and star jumped before an old favourite, the plank-off. It was a very strong field and most people lasted over 2 minutes. In the end it was between Matt and Vito. They were knocking on the 4:30 minute point when Matt succumbed to his dropping right buttock and Vito took victory.

After a thank you from our grateful host Stef we ran into the night back to Queen Square. My group arrived first so we did a lap of the square incorporating some sprints and then stretched off with the rest of the group.

We achieved loads this evening guys so thanks for all you efforts, I can't wait to get back down there and paint now. Hopefully they will have more rollers than a group of millionaire vintage car enthusiasts with a passion for perms.

I am the leg man
You are the leg (wo)men
We got the wall washed
Thank-thanking you!
