Going coco in aquapulco

Bristol Report written by David Head

A fantastic turnout today to help Mark at surfers against sewage in these wet conditions. Thanks to everyone as you made a real difference. Meeting under the skate park we paddled our way and even did a spot of boldering to keep our tootsies dry as we walked along the peel path to meet Mark and his 2 barrows. We then climbed down into the grassy verge and scanned the plain collecting as much pesky litter as possible in the hour. We handed 5 general waste and 3 recycling bag fulls. Key finds of the day was a coconut with a happy facial expression. We then barrowed our way back to the rubbish drop of point and a final photo with the fab team and Mark. We then had a lovely coffee and bite at the Garden centre. Awesome place. Great job 👏

Berry A-mazing

Bristol Report written by Alice Whale

This Saturday 5 awesome Goodgymers headed to the Berry Maze for some post bashing, moving and weeding to get the maze ship shape and ready for the berry plants to have an excellent season in 2024. The sun came out to greet us and we left the maze looking spic and span. Thanks everyone!

We had an Appetite for De(con)struction

Bristol Report written by VaguelyNorthernDarren

6 runners and 5 walkers mainly swam to The Southville Centre on a very soggy, dark and dreary night, even the Bristol Light Festival rarely pierced the gloom, but did that stop us!?...

Well, after arriving, Ru the Receptionist (not related to Rue the Day) showed us the kids' play deck that needed deconstructing, and the notes included a request to sweep and weed outdoors. 11 hardy GoodGymmers bravely volunteered to remain indoors while Caroline, Marianne and report-writer Vaguely Northern Darren had the easy job of sweeping and weeding in the glorious evening sky full of hydrating rainfall!

The indoors people did as much as they could with the most mis-matched set of Allen keys they could find, and what looked like a child's screwdriver set from the 1980's. 'We did as much as we could with the time available, and at least no one had to go to A&E' were the words I think summed up the night and I wonder if Dave has returned with his 'proper toolbox' to finish the job?

We polished off the night by drying out at a local vegetarian Chinese restaurant for February's GoodGym Eats, arranged by Alice this time now Clo has moved a bit further away.. And we'd turned up soaking wet last time we were there, too!

Snappy snippy-snips and rolling progress

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

It was a double-header group run for Bristol GoodGym with the walkers heading to a different task than the runners!

The runners sprinted (at a jogging pace) over to St Werburgh's Community Centre for the first tidy up of the outside space this year - we're hoping to make this a regular task this year to get on top of the more pesky weeds. We think there was a yoga/relaxation class going on as people in one room were lying in the dark, otherwise we should probably have alerted someone...

The runners did say they could so with more tools there - asked for info to pass to the task owner, the on-chorus response was "snippy-snips" at which point Melanie realised that, much like parenting toddlers, its sometimes not useful to have used nicknames for items. It's both short and long snippy-snips desired - or secateurs and shears to is gardening professionals.

Meanwhile, the runners returned to the day-time Community Mission task beneficiary at Sparks to get a second coat of paint on the newly green and blue walls. With rollers and dodgy brushes, it was a much quicker start which was great as we'd have been needing to leave before Dave had managed to get the lid off the paint at lunchtime!

With both areas looking fabulously smart, it was time to RV back at Workout where there was speed-dating happening but we were all talked out.

Hearty biscuit rewards

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Whilst Melanie was away on a(nother) parkrun adventure, GoodGym Bristol were back in Queen Square preparing to run or walk to the City Centre.

Brief lap around the Redcliff section of the floating Harbour to get some distance in before nipping into Broadmead for BHF to help get Lexi's weekly distance on target. Limited random finds in the depths of BHF’s clothes hanging room this week (boo!). Frances brought along amazing biscuits to celebrate her 52nd GoodGym session (copyright Richard B)

The air was cool and full of promise. Our intrepid heroes stepped out into the night unsure of what the night would bring. Step followed step as we made our way to the F of BH. Warmth glorious warmth was the cry as we arrived. We signed our names like rockstars and made our way up. Clothes meet hangers, hangers meet clothes. A match made in heaven, or hell, when used underwear was found (play scream noises). Fine biscuits were provided by Lady Frances before we made our merry way into the night. (copyright Richard G)

This will be updated by someone who was there, by the method of you leaving a comment and hopefully we can build some sort of timeline of the fun that happened, and I'll transfer the sentences to the story here :-)
