Santa SACKed off the fitness sesh and BAGged himself a Christmas cracker instead!

Barnsley Report written by Grace Feeney

Tonight at Goodgym Barnsley we were a bit thin on the ground with only two runners signed up! As it is the Christmas season, there are excuses for Christmas parties, holidays and the chilly weather, but nevertheless the grusome two-some Steve and Grace were there raring to go, with Mairead and Florentine meeting us at the task!

We bagged a festive task tonight helping the local council prepare for an family event in the local community. Doreen was readily waiting for us, with all of the goodie bag items laid out, so we got to work, conveyor belt styley filling the gift bags. We chatted away and filled the bags, feeling all festive! When we'd finished there was 120 bags filled!

After a few sELFies, group shots and obligatory boomerangs, we said our goodbyes and Merry Christmas's and were on our way. Another lovely community task at GoodGym Barnsley!

Next week we're delivering GG flyers and having our Christmas meal, sign up here if you can make it!

We twigged what to do straight away

Barnsley Report written by Grace Feeney

The Fab Four met on this beautiful June evening, raring to go for the evening's task! After a quick catch up and kerb steps warm up, we headed off up the hill to the task.

Florentine was there to meet us with her usual infectious smile and positive vibes. She had been busy working at the school all day and was so grateful for any help we could provide. As the school is still in the early phases, there are lots of jobs to do to get it ready, most of which are made so much easier with a group of people, perfect for us!

Today's task was to help Florentine clear the massive pile of the leaves and twigs in the front garden, that she had gathered from cutting down the

huge, ugly bushes

We grabbed gloves, spades, boxes and bags and got stuck in.

The pile was deceivingly big and complex!

Mairead and Sharon worked together down one end filling boxes with larger twigs, whilst myself and Steve filled bags with rubbish and leaves. Florentine got to work helping where she could, whilst sharing stories of the trials and tribulations refurbishing the school.

After a solid 45 minutes filling bags and boxes, the pile was finally conquered! We worked in pairs to move everything around the back of the building, ready to be taken to the tip. With a quick sweep and a few obligatory photos later, we were ready to head back to Shaw Lane.

No time for fitness sesh, much to everyone's

extreme disappointment

so after a decent stetch of our tired legs, everyone said their goodbyes. Great session everyone!

We've got the Holy Spirit (level)

Barnsley Report written by Tom Mutton

This week we were back off to ELSH who couldn't wait to have us back after the mammoth yard clearing job we did for them last time.

This time we were inside making a start on clearing and sorting the basement ready for the stored items to back upstairs and be used by ELSH to support and educate 16-25 year olds.

With SUPER STEVE with his professional efficiency and optimization hat on we hatched a plan to begin separating, sorting and stacking various items so that other could be got to and in time sorted and used.

As you can see by the photos we made progress and ticked some serious OCD boxes.

On leaving the task FABULOUS FLO presented us with a lovely card from he church thanking us for all of our efforts as well as some biscuits to take home.

To work off the biscuits we would consume we thought it best to burn some calories so ran back and incorporated some bench work including;

  • Bump N Jumps
  • Toe Taps
  • Suicides

Until next week, happy running!

Go with the Flow!

Barnsley Report written by Tom Mutton

This week we welcomed 2 new runners to @GGBarnsley. Please woop, hola and cheer;

With a Rae of sunshine on a cloudy day and Grace in our hearts we set off to meet FABULOUS FLO of ELSH and assist with creating a new center for her Church and support the fantastic work they will be doing supporting the local community with educational programmes.

On arrival we were met with a skip to fill, there was heaps of work to do so there was nothing to it except to get straight to it!

Sister Sledge Kim got busy smashing the bigger items, sorting out her draws and identifying mystery items. Flo nearly kicked the bucket when she realized she threw Handyman Richards buckets that we were filling rubbish with into the skip! Stevie G commented halfway saying it was Sofar so good, but he did begin to tyre as the task went on, especially when is came to moving and entire car wheel, hub and all! Grace provided us with a shovel masterclass and Rae got stuck right in, not afraid to get her hands (gloves) dirty.

@GGBarnsley were definitely the remedy for the piles as by the end of the session the skip was full to the brim and the yard was clear, ready to be used in the future. Great job team!

Overheard this week;

Grace - Steve, can you pull this rug out?
Steve - No, i'm no good at pulling.

See you next Tuesday! Happy Running.
