Mrs J needed help moving a sofa so she can return from hospital.
We had a little help from a friend of Mrs J who had just finished painting the corridor. The sofa was large and the corridor was narrow, and we had the newly painted walls to try and keep clean. The challenge was on.
Our first attempt didn't go to plan, we got it to the front door but couldn't get it out.
We returned the sofa to the living room ready to see what we could do to make it smaller. We thought the legs might unscrew, but after many attempts that was not the case.
We knew we'd have to put our heads together to get it out. It took a bit of tetris thinking; a shift into another room; lots of left, right, up, down and tilting around corners; and then we did it. Sofa outside and 3 very relieved faces!
Now Mrs J has the space for her new bed so she can come home and enjoy her space again
I popped over to North Clapham this afternoon to help Mr P with a three-part task: topping up Mr P’s electricity meter key, posting a letter, and picking up some shopping. By far the most stressful element was making sure I chose the right cat food... Mr P was very grateful - my pleasure!
We're back for a third time this July at the Asics London 10K in Westminster.
We’ll be operating the aid station along Victoria Embankment, across the river from the London Eye and County Hall. The task itself amounts to handing out water to sweltering runners whilst yelling encouragement in their faces - you’ll love it!
So get your red shirt on, and come along and cheer-on the GoodGymmers competing in the race, help increase the visibility of GoodGym at this busy high-profile event, and get a little something for your trouble…
LimeLight Sports offer each GoodGym volunteer:
A free place on an upcoming LimeLight Sports race. That's the (postponed) Hackney Half this September, the Oxford Half in October, the Hackney Half in May 2022, or the next London 10K in a years time.
Breakfast on the day.
Loot. Historically there's always been branded merch assigned to volunteers at the start, and finishers shirts floating about at the end. TBC exactly what yet.
Times: 7.30 – 1.30 (although we ordinarily get signed-off rather before this)
Getting there: Waterloo and Charing Cross mainlines, Westminster and Embankment Undergrounds are all nearby. Be aware some buses on the North side of the river will be on diversion because of the race.
If you want to be involved, please sign-up over on the LimeLight Sports volunteer portal HERE

A busy session at GROAD (Get Rid Of And Donate) in North Dulwich. Karen & I arrived in the rain, and started out helping to shift some of the latest stock into a storage shed out the back of the community hall. As the sun came out, the donations started to arrive: boxes and bags of all sorts of unwanted or unneeded bits for us to sort through, organise and then re-box and re-bag: teenie tiny babygrows and bibs; jeans for all sizes, ages and genders; kitchenware and crockery; jigsaw puzzles and books; trainers and boots; toiletries and pillow cases. Almost everything dropped off to us was in great condition. I'm sure that the onward recipients of the gorgeous Burberry jumpers will be delighted - and I hope that the donated bikinis get some use this summer too. Goes without saying that by the time Karen & I locked up, the rain re-started... another damp run home.
Get Rid Of And Donate (GROAD) do amazing work making use of unused STUFF, donated to them by the public. We've previously helped them pack Christmas presents and toys for local kids and packed and distributed bags of essentials for rough sleepers.
They understandably have a lot of stock, covering projects for vulnerable families and refugees, so have asked for our help to sort their weekly stock intake.
The task is at St Faith's Church Hall, near North Dulwich station and we need 3 people. Andrea will be there to meet you and show you what needs doing.
Please bring a mask as the task will be inside 🤿
