Barnet Environmental Project Tiny Forest.

Planting help required on this day to help produce a Tiny Forest with Earth watch and Barnet council. 24th of February morning and afternoon.

A Tiny Forest is a dense and rapidly growing native woodland in a small area. It will provide a protected habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, filter the air of harmful particulates and reduce flooding and soil loss.

Besides these important local effects, it is symbolic of our need to protect our wider environment and it is hoped it will provide an education and emotional engagement of our community. It’s also something that we will have to physically nurture as a group. Its a great fit for Goodgym!

These initiatives are gaining popularity across the UK, with organisations like EarthWatch and The Conservation Volunteers getting involved.

If you have ideas about how to promote this planting to the community please also get in touch. We want schools, community groups, artisans, news media and others to get involved.

Goodgym Barnet went on a Bear Hunt!

Four goodGym members and a dog went on a bear hunt! We gathered at Stephens house and gardens in very light drizzle. After a brief introduction we started out on our 13 km walk into the greenbelt. Our first stop was the oldest building in Finchley St Mary‘s Church dating back to the 12th century. It also has the grave of John Cartwright the father of the Parliamentary reform and Champion of universal suffrage. We then stopped again at Finchley way a green space being developed by the local community with occasional assistance from GoodGym. We hit the footpaths and bridleways across Dollis Brook and through Finchley golf club to Mill Hill. At one point the path was blocked by a fallen tree possibly push down by a bear. At this point Ciara burst into song!

We’re goin’ on a bear hunt, We’re going to catch a big one, I’m not scared What a beautiful day! Oh look! It’s a fallen tree. Can’t go over it, Can’t go under it, Can’t go around it, Got to go through it!

We then had an opportunity for a coffee stop at Finchley nurseries before setting off again and at this point we finally caught our bear, Well done John and Gus! See photo. The rain had stopped and we entered the Darlands nature reserve following a bubbling stream until we reached a lake full of ducks and ducklings. We then headed back to Stephen‘s house and gardens via Dollis Brook. Thanks to Ivy for coming all the way from Tower Hamlets.

GoodGym x Great Walk ( Run) Together

A social walk along country footpath‘s to a nature reserve

This is a beautiful walk from Stephens house and gardens past and an ancient church along a Brook and then using footpaths and bridleways to Darlands lake and nature reserve. There will be an opportunity for a coffee stop en route and a social chat. 13km approx 3.30

Running could be an option please get in touch.

Great Get Together, the initiative set up following the murder of Jo Cox MP in 2016. The Great Get Together aims to bring people together to celebrate what they have in common and create connections between communities.

The dawn of yoga at GoodGym.

Thanks for coming to my first morning session with Good Gym and just 30 minutes!. Hope you found it a good way to start your day. I would encourage you to have a little quiet time every morning it's a great habit.... your feedback would be appreciated just a couple of comments about how you felt during, after and the following day.

Thanks for yoga! Just back from my run, felt slow at the time (lots of traffic and pedestrians in the way) but looking at the stats it was my second fastest on that route at a much lower HR than my fastest - so I think the yoga did really help even if I wasn’t aware of it at the time! Thank you - have a great day!

Half hour on line yoga session at 7am Join at 6.55 This is a simple beginners / intermediate online yoga session designed to both strengthen, stretch and relax the body. It will be an 1/2 hour session using some simple yoga poses both static and dynamic, and the focus will be on mindful breath and movement. Thanks for coming hope you enjoyed the session it’s good that you can do longer sessions to help focus but why not think about a short session now you know a little about simple postures and breathing.
