Having the option to do an early grocery shop in Aldi I decided to take on the mission. As an Aldi customer I like to go early when it's at its quietest - I was crossing my fingers it wouldn't be too bad given the last- minute Christmas shoppers and potential Covid panic-buyers. I showed up to the lady's flat. She was very nice and we liaised about exactly what she wanted. I arrived at Aldi shortly after 8. Glancing through the window it was already quite busy but there was no queue outside so I went straight in. I had my guard up and was making a conscious attempt to stay as distanced from the other shoppers as possible. I was also getting shopping for myself so trying to keep on top of both lists wasn't ideal. The longer I spent in there the busier it got and my anxiety levels were rising. Eventually I managed to stick everything from both lists into my trolley and checked out paying for my items separately from her items. I was certainly glad to get out. The lady was very grateful for my efforts and I certainly got a sense of satisfaction from knowing she'd be sorted for Christmas. I wish any other last-minute Christmas shoppers good luck and if you must go to Aldi go early or late to avoid the rush. Otherwise head to Waitrose where you'll have more breathing space
Ashley is part of a crowd that's making a huge noise. Ashley has been cheered by 25 people - that's a round of applause just on their own. We hope they keep it up.
Ashley has just done something they've never done before. Ashley has just run a mission; they've changed their running route and run to help someone who really needed their help.
We have been asked by British Red Cross if we can help buy and deliver groceries to Mr A please. He does not mind which store you go to and will have some cash to pay for his shopping. He would like the following items: 1 Pack of Slice Mature Cheddar Cheese; 2 Packs of Ham; 7 Ready Meals (preferably pasta meals, doesn’t matter if the same, except no rice); 1 x 1 litres Semi Skimmed Milk (Green top);
Congratulations to Ashley who is now Mission Verified. They're now ready to start running GoodGym missions to help older people and running alone to community mission. Give Ashley a cheer to kickstart their mission running career.
Four runners came to help smarten up the Melvin Hall, and greeted with cups of tea and cakes.
The novelty iten was a buffer - no, I'd not known of such a thing - but what else would you have for buffing floors? It had just been acquired on a long loan, with several spare buffer pads, but no manual. It seemed to have a mind of its own, and operating it, trying to direct it covering the wooden floor felt like a full body work out - upper body, core, glutes and ankles.
More straightforwardly, we also cleaned windows, paintwork and a good amount of vacuuming
Our friends at Melvin Hall are tackling some tasks that have mounted up over the lockdown period and they need our help! There are a few jobs to take on, so we might have a few visits.
- Make your own way to Melvin Hall for 7pm
- Bring your own mask and gloves and adhere to social distancing guidelines
- Take your pick from a few tasks, including cleaning paintwork, cleaning windows or buffing the floor (with a buffer!)
