Going potty - won't slate it though!
On a rarely bright and sunny Wednesday evening, eight keen GoodGym runners gathered by the kitchen garden at Chiswick House, ready to receive our instructions from Chris the gardener.
Chiswick House's kitchen garden is a regular location for GoodGym Hounslow, and it's great to see the bulbs popping up and flowers opening up as the weather warms up. Today, our first task was to do a spot of tidying; shifting stacks of terracotta flower pots and piles of old slate tiles from out in the working area to being packed away in their storage areas.
Quickly getting that out the way, we moved on to something we've got much more experience with - shifting wood-chip! With Chris and Michelle filling wheelbarrows, Matt doing a zen-like job of raking and everyone else ferrying back and forth, we got stuck into giving the newly formed paths within the garden a thick covering of chips, ready for a season of use by gardeners and visitors.
With the light starting to fade and the garden looking well-refreshed, we said goodbye and headed off; Matt and Eloise on the long trek home, and the others to sit outside on Turnham Green (outside the closed Packhorse!) patiently waiting for the pubs to all reopen...

Lending a hand at Chiswick House kitchen garden

Chiswick House is a charity which relies on volunteers to keep its beautiful grounds open to everybody, and they have asked us for some last minute help in the kitchen garden.
Chris, the gardener will be meeting the team on Duke’s Avenue at entrance to the Estate Yard. They need help to move some material from the community area of the garden and a bit of shovelling too, so it will be a socially distanced, outside mission. Please do bring your own gloves.

First GGH Wednesday 2021: a sweeping success
Tonight's record of achievement went something like this, our first GG task on a Wednesday in 2021, a clean sweep and a belated birthday celebration can only mean one thing: cake!
The rule of 6 saw the super 6 return to one of our regular tasks at Strand on the Green infants school. We made our way to the bike shed to collect the tools to give the driveway and car park a GoodGym style spring clean. Honestly Ms Hancock it did look better after we’d finished!
Leafing so soon Keen to get stuck in after our winter lockdown, we brushed up on our skillz and quickly got the job done. In a record time we'd filled four bags and the tool trolley with leaves. A quick selfie and time to wish Chris Happy Birthday for yesterday (white chocolate and raspberry cake courtesy of Leticia). To sum it up: Good to be back
