The worlds friendliest goats made last nights long hot group run of 10km to Horsenden Farm totally worth it!

16 of us headed down to help Friends of Horsenden Hill with weeding and watering and we were rewarded with spending the beautiful summers evening in wonderful outside space surrounded by pigs, chickens and the aforementioned super cute goats (named Gandolf and Badger!).

Why do we GoodGym?!

We started at out by welcoming Becky to her first ever GoodGym run and inspired by last weekends GoodGym Shindig we all went round and said why we came to GoodGym. Answers ranged from ’It forces me to run when I wouldn’t otherwise’ to the best answer from Alex visiting us from Camden (and head office!) who said ’GoodGym has changed my life’. We also had lots of votes for feeling part of and helping the local community!

News this week is:

With a long run ahead of us we set straight off sticking in a spaced out group on the way down with the quickest members looping back to regroup. The run was undulating and varied with a mix of quiet roads, parks, bridges, a much appreciated sprinkler through the golf course before a bit more hill work to get over the A40 before arriving at our final destination.

Once inside the grounds it felt very detached from the busy lives we all live in London, a little piece of tranquility and calm were volunteers come to help look after the land and animals. We were met by volunteer Lynda who is part of Friends of Horsenden Hill, they are a group of people who love the area and want others to enjoy and celebrate this wonderful unique place, definitely fitting with our GoodGym ethos.

A world away from London!

The tasks to complete were lots of watering from the recent stretches of warm weather and lots of weeding in the raised beds so the plants and vegetables have space to grow. We rotated the tasks around so everyone got a chance to do a bit of everything including a couple of breaks to pet the amazingly friendly goats and look around the rest of the lovely space on the farm.

Time flew by and between us we managed to give all the trees and beds a good drink and tidy up! Just time for quick group picture (if you look closely there’s a guest in the middle of us!) before heading back in staggered groups back to the start. The quickest left last meaning they could push the pace and chase the rest of us down.

Everyone loved the task and is keen to visit again so we’ll definitely be booking in future do gooding there on upcoming tasks but if you’re interested in getting involved sooner then head over to the Friends Of Horsenden Hill Facebook Page to see how you can get involved. They have a few upcoming open events so keep an eye out on how you can help!

Until next time!

Is there a picture out there that contains a purer joy than the one where Liv is stroking TWO GOATS AT THE SAME TIME? I think not.
