Run down of the week's news

A huge welcome to Sarah and to Alexander who both came for their first group run last night - welcome to GoodGym guys!

Congratulations to everybody at GoodGym who played a part in running a phenomenal 83954 kilometres and did over 6000 good deeds - did you know that's equivalent to running twice around the world? Incredible stuff.

Our first GoodGym social of the year is this Thursday - come along to find out who won the International Pun of the Year, hear what everybody has been up to, and have a few drinks. For all the details and to sign up click here.

A huge well done to all parkrunners this week - from Brockwell park to Clapham Common and Tooting, it's great to see you representing GoodGym on a Saturday morning and starting off the weekend right! Don't forget parkrun happens every single Saturday morning at hundreds of different locations across the UK at 9 am. It's free, fun and a great way to improve your running.

  • It all started off so well...

We started off our night last night bang on schedule, with a quick warm up and a carb-related poll. Lovely stuff. We had a 4.5km run ahead of us, and set off at a nice steady pace, stopping occasionally to do some conditioning drills and to keep the group together. By 7:30 we had arrived in Putney ready for our task to support The Rainbow Trust.

The Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness, and helps them to make the most of their time together. It's an incredible organisation, and our job last night was to try and raise some money for them by packing shopping bags.

However, we after waiting for the manager to appear, there had been some sort of breakdown in communication from Sainsbury's....and instead of the balloons, tshirts, collecting tins and leaflets we had been expecting, there was, well, none of that! So while half of the group made their way to the tills with the tins, we split up the other half and went outside to do a legs blast, swapping over after a few minutes. Despite the lack of tins and resources, we managed to raise some money, which is better than nothing. I'm so sorry gang, despite all the prep this one was a bust. Not so much 'Live Well for Less', more 'Run Hard for Little' . Other supermarket chains are available.

Still, we had another 4.5km run back ahead of us, so while we waved goodbye to the group who opted for the train back, we decided to knock the job on the head, and head back to base. Nice running, team.

Next week we normal service will be resumed (promise!) with a lovely big task - we will be painting a riverside Scout's HQ in Putney. Again it is a longer run, but you will have the option of taking public transport on the way back, so don't let that put you off. We do need all the help we can get with this one! Sign up here.
