31 runners ran in 3 different directions and completed 3 different tasks

Beetle Habitat Elliott Nally

Having missed a few weeks due to work I was really happy to make it back to Good Gym last night. A slightly different approach to what I was used to, we split off into three groups, one for an 11k run (for more dedicated runners than I) and two local missions. I shortly found myself round the corner moving tree stumps and turning over soil, more what I was used to. The highlight of this however where the lovely couple we were helping, they were so grateful for the help and seemed like genuinely lovely people, it really brought the whole "good" part of what we're doing home.

As with the syntax the "gym" followed shortly, with Mark putting us through our paces, running laps in the "5 gears" while a friendly greyhound bounded alongside. I returned home endorphins pumping and feeling great, thanks Good Gym.

A daunting first mission to Citywood in Bow that consisted of a 10km run in total only served as further motivation for a hardy group of 7 GoodGymmers. Following a tour of the workshop and studio by Danny, including some unexpected Tudorian history, we got stuck into the task of shoveling two large bags of woodchips onto a patch of land that had been converted into a community garden. Completing the task took longer than expected and we got back to base a little later, but better to finish the job than to leave with a chip on our shoulders.

Another GoodGym and another trip to Hollybush Estate. It is lovely to revisit the area and see the impact we're having over time. I have only been part of GoodGym for two months and have already cleared two tonne of wood chip and turned over many flower beds, now we have prepared an area ready for more wood chip for next week. I'm sure the residents appreciate it. It also helps that Margaret and Michael are so passionate about their work and such great cheerleaders!

Once our jobs were complete it was onwards to Ion Square. Here Mark put us through our paces with the GoodGym gears; 1-5, 1 being easy chatting and 5 being a full on sprint. 1 was obviously the groups favourite! Intervals are probably my most dreaded aspect of GoodGym but something seemed to change this week. Maybe I had unknowingly eaten a high energy food or maybe, just maybe, I have caught this so called running bug! Good work GoodGym. Bring on the next set!
