Eight runners ran 5km to distribute events booklets for the LOROS hospice

The ice age is coming, the sun was zooming in, meltdown expected, GoodGym doing their thing. An evening so warm that even Irene wasn't moaning about being cold saw us doing a good deed for our friends at LOROS while getting fit in the process.

We were delighted to welcome Vickie to her first GoodGym group run, we hope you enjoyed it and will join us again soon for some more fun in the evening sun. After a nice steady trot through the university campus and up New Walk we arrived the the top of London Road to visit the local businesses between Victoria Park and the train station hoping they would put some LOROS 2019 events booklets on display for their customers. Huw brought along 900 booklets from the 2,700 he collected recently from the hospice for distribution around the city, thinking it would be a result if we could shift five or six hundred tonight. Mel, Sheila, Stu and Vickie took the left hand side of the street with Huw, Irene, Lindsay and Jimmy heading down the right. The team were obviously at their charming best as almost all of the businesses we asked were more than happy to take a handful of booklets to share the news of the array of fantastic events that LOROS are running in 2019 to raise money for their wonderful charity.

We whizzed down London Road and by the time we hit the train station we'd amazingly shifted around 800 of the booklets. A brief foray into the train station shops and a couple of businesses at the top of Granby Street and our wheelie bags and trolley were empty. Hopefully our work will raise awareness and get a few more people signed up to events that raise money for LOROS. We'll have another task in a couple of weeks (sign up here) where we'll blitz Braunstone Gate, Narborough Road and Hinckley Road, I reckon we could shift the other 1,800 in one task and we'll be needing to go back to LOROS for more to cover other areas of the city on community missions.

As we'd slightly overrun on time we did a shortened fitness session on the way back down New Walk, turning and heading back up the hill for 30 second intervals as we made our way back to DMU.

Next week we're off to Saffron Acres to finish off the work we've been doing on the tyre wall on two previous tasks. Don't forget we're supporting two local races, the Rothley 10k and Watermead Challenge, on forthcoming group runs, details are all on the website on how to get involved. Also, look out on the Facebook group for details of the proposed community mission over in Coalville.

Happy running, HD
