Nine runners ran 3.9km to deliver event booklets for the LOROS Hospice

With showers passing through Leicester all afternoon and spoiling my cricket viewing (well it is half term) it was a little concerning with an outdoor task delivering booklets that might easily be ruined if they got wet. The sun got to work though and ensured we could enjoy a pleasant evening run while doing some good work for our friends at LOROS.

We welcomed Tori to her first group run and she showed great endeavour both on the run and with her people skills visiting the businesses during the task...more of that later. We hope you enjoyed it Tori and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We split into a running group and a walking group and headed for 20 minute out and back run along the river to get our run in for the evening with the task starting point being right on our doorstep. The runners were lucky enough to get up to Frog Island which was home to the Bring The Paint 2019 graffitti exhibition. Thanks to Sharon for recommending a slight change to the planned route so we could loop round and see all the wonderful artwork. I'll certainly be heading back around for a closer look in the near future.

Back at base we loaded up with our bags and trolleys full of booklets. Two weeks ago we managed to shift an impressive 900 booklets along London Road; the challenge tonight was to beat that total! We split in to two teams with Mel, Dave, Lindsay, Stu and Sheila heading down the left hand side of Braunstone Gate and Narborough Road with Michaela, Sharon, Tori and Huw taking the right with a brief diversion to visit some of the shops on Hinckley Road. Tori showed great patience in one particular shop as they had to call down the management to make a decision on whether they could put the booklets on display. Luckily after quite a wait they placed a handful in prime position in the window!

As we made our way along the plethora of shops and bars Team Left Side soon ran out of booklets coming back to the big bag to refill. The bags were almost empty but there was a twist...more boxes of booklets cunningly placed in a car on Beaconsfield Road for a top up! The team took on the challenge and kept on going a little over our usual task time and by the time we reached our point of return we'd covered an impressive 1.2km of the city streets distributing an amazing 1,500 booklets for LOROS.

We made our way back to DMU, some walking, some running via Bede Park before retiring to the Black Horse where we celebrated the half marathons completed by Dave and Mel (and Stu in his absence) and the marathon run by Irene over the weekend who joined us after the run.

Well done tonight everyone, we've done some great work tonight to help a wonderful charity.

Hope to see you all next week as we visit a new task at Harrison Road Methodist Church for some gardening action!
