It was a lovely sunny afternoon and after another litter pick in central Liverpool, Pauline and Matthew tackled Newsham Park, or at least that was the plan. We only got as far as the small section next to the West Derby Road and managed to fill up four bags just from that area. It looked so tidy after we had finished. I am not sure which is sadder, the litter that was there when we started, or the knowledge that it will be there again in a few days time. At least for a short while the area is tidy. What does it say about our society that so many people are just throwing rubbish onto the street? What else are these people doing to damage our environment and our way of life? Having done the good deed, Matthew returned home ready for a nice cup of tea only to find someone had dumped some broken plastic office boxes all over the pavement opposite where he lives. But it was only another twenty minutes and that was cleared as well. Amazing to be volunteering with Pauline, who is knocking out the good deeds in January and is an inspiration to us all. And this was possibly her all time favourite task as I have just had surgery on my vocal folds and so couldn't say anything.
