SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Marieke
After the fourth hottest day ever recorded in British history, the poor sapling trees in the Lammas Enclosure were in dire need of water, so I spent a bit of time in between shopping missions watering the thirstiest trees. I managed to track down a watering can and a large water reservoir, providing relief for the smallest trees first. I then skipped back and forth a fair few times, watering can in bike basket, between the enclosure and the nearby tennis club's water butts to take care of the bigger trees. Probably much to the puzzlement of the tennis players and dog walkers around the area.
In February 2011, local children planted 21 fruit trees to form a Community Orchard in the overgrown tennis courts in the Lammas Enclosure, between Lammas and Walpole Parks. Volunteers from Ealing Transition have taken on the management of the area and preservation of natural habitats. The residents call on our own GoodGym volunteers from time to time when they have specific tasks that need extra pairs of hands.
