Normally Sundays, its long runs or walks from my flat to the Goodgym Ealing community mission, but today was an exception as I was able to coordinate and renew contact with the Canal & River Trust Ealing. This first and hopefully more missions was at the border or Ealing and Hillingdon on the canal. Meeting with Emilie from the Trust along the canal and our mission today was originally planting bulbs and lavender. Kash and Sevan on their side had a long run to the Ealing border and joined us. As Emilie and I were early we noticed a lot of litter around the spot we were going to plant some lovely lavender. We agreed to litter pick, then plant bulbs and lavender. The 4 heroes collected loads of waste on the new plantation, along the canal, underneath the bridge by Bankside and also by the Army Reserve Centre by the canal. This is a hot spot for people drinking etc so loads of cans and bottles including lemons that Sevan offered me for my next beer!!. Once we cleared the rubbish, Emily provided some bags of compost, some tools and the most important bulbs and lavender. Compost in place, holes dug and plants in place : Kash loves lavender and even did push ups to smell them. As we still had time left, we carried on litter picking with Emilie on the canal towards the Blair Peach Primary School.Nearly 20 bags!!Good thing Emilie had the van wit hall the tools and space to bring them back to their depot in Southall. We all enjoyed this mission and looking forward to more session with the Canal & River Trust Ealing...keep an eye on this space.

Canals and rivers are a world away from every day. They’re free, open spaces we can all enjoy - and it’s our job at the Trust to keep them that way.
