Equipped with ice axes and oxygen an intrepid group from GoodGym Oxford undertook to climb Mount Everest at home, beginning on 10th April.

In less than a month we climbed 45,242 stairs, a grand total of 9048 metres, reaching the top on the morning of 8th May - in time to celebrate VE day at the highest point on Earth.

Since the first British team took 33 days to reach the top of the mountain I think we can feel smug about this fitness achievement.

Not a group to do things my halves, we kept going, past the summit (as you do), actually achieving 200m beyond the height of the world's tallest mountain.

Next time we ascend Everest it will be an extreme litter pick, so litter pickers at the ready, we're off to Nepal ;-)
