Four runners met up at Palace Road Nature Gardens on a chilly Saturday morning to continue helping Gerry tidy up the park. Tom, Sophie and Mark started off the day with parkrun and brunch in nearby Brockwell Park before meeting up with Silvia at the park. We were briefed by Gerry on the use of the different tools - including a scythe, machetes, assorted forks and even a pickaxe - and got to work. We quickly warmed up hacking away the ivy and brambles, managing to clear two big bags of weeds and uncovering some of the first snowdrops. Tom wielded the pickaxe and tackled the bay tree 'suckers' which were spreading rapidly through the park. Gerry told us he's hoping to hire a digger later in the year to clear the rest of the borders and plant an orchard, so it was great to be part of the initial clear up and to see such a lovely community space. All in all a great start to the weekend!
