Today I met up with Patrick for a mission in Islington for Mr and Mrs R.

Mr and Mrs R have decreased mobility and they have recently found that their garden has become a little over run with weeds. As it would be difficult for them to deal with this themselves, GoodGym were asked if we could help.

After a brief hello to Patrick (who had been Run-Directing at Finsbury parkrun for over four hours that morning! 🙃), we introduced ourselves to Mrs R and got started.

Mrs R asked us to direct our attentions at two large flower beds at opposite sides of the garden. These were pretty weed-filled (the weeds having incredibly annoying deep roots), so Patrick found a large fork to dig them up efficiently. As there was only one fork, I mostly poked my de-weeder (looks like a screwdriver) at some of the problematic looking weeds until Patrick could come over and do it properly.

One of the reasons I like doing gardening missions so much (despite not being keen on gardening) is because you often get to have some really good conversations with your mission mate. Today was no different, and it was great to unload several months worth of conversation at Patrick (sorry Patrick (but not really 😅)). I gave some snacks in return though, so hopefully it was an even trade! 😄😅👍🏻

After 90 minutes or so of working, we packed up the weeds we'd dug up and took them to the front for collection by the council, saying goodbye (& thanks for some tea!) to Mrs R as we left.

It was great seeing you, Patrick. Hopefully see you again soon! 😄
