Why we are supporting The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS)

The Active Wellbeing Society is a community benefit society established to enable people and communities to get active together. They are jointly working with partner organisations across the city to support those most in need during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

They established the #Brumtogether movement in response to the Coronavirus crisis. #BrumTogether is a network of more than 60 partner organisations working together to provide those most in need with essential support and services. This involves co-ordinating deliveries of food parcels, hot meals, hygiene products, baby supplies and children’s activity packs to families.

During the four months of Lockdown there was a marvellous response from Birmingham residents wanting to volunteer to help with the #BrumTogether emergency food distributions – volunteering to either help pack food parcels at our food distribution centres, or delivering food parcels around the city to those vulnerable residents and families in most need.

Our GoodGym members have delivered food parcels around the city, and helped sort food in their distribution hubs around the city. As we move into uncertain times this winter, they are very keen to hear from anyone who would like to register to be a volunteer packer or driver. Community Missions are listed for food packing, and follow the information below if you want to help as a driver.

How to get involved

TAWS are doing daily food parcels from their distribution centre at 10 Bromley Street, Digbeth, B9 4AN on:

Mondays to Thursdays 9am-4.30pm Fridays 9am-2pm

Please report to the Distribution Centre Manager on arrival. You will be required to complete a Volunteer Agreement on arrival and follow social distancing and Health & Safety guidelines.

By registering now as a TAWS volunteer, it will help them to prepare and meet any challenges they might face in Birmingham, and your support as a volunteer would be much appreciated.

For further details please email volunteering@theaws.org

Once you've got involved and been along to help you can log your good deed straight from this page and even tag any other GoodGym members if they were there too.

You can contact johnhayes@goodgym.org if you have any questions about getting involved.
