I ran from the north to the south side of Birmingham City Centre to do my second volunteering session at a foodbank today. It was all systems go as they needed as many bags as possible to be prepared for Monday, as a huge increase in demand is expected when lockdown hits. So I joined two regular volunteers on the shopping loop, at another food bank with no UHT milk left. I could see the demand in action as there were rows of empty pallets, which were full of bags to go out at the end of my community mission yesterday. After two hours of efficient shopping, we had almost filled the pallets back up. That was despite having a pasta mishap, when I tipped out some bags of penne to put in the parcels and three of them decanted themselves by bursting. I did a quick decanting repair to avoid wasting the food and was able to carry on. Now is the time to give your time as we face the race to keep isolated and economically deprived people fed around Birmingham. If you have time to spare, sign up for one of the community missions next week.
