Chipper of a Time

On Wednesday evening, 10 GoodGym members met on a very humid evening to help Braywick Nature Reserve prepare for the upcoming Autumn season.Tasked with the job of spreading woodchips over local walkways around Braywick park, the members were enthusiastic and motivated.

Sophie and Allora enjoyed a brief mile run to the session, meeting Claire, Solvita, Nikola, Rachel, Louise, Sara, Kanika, and Diya at the event.

Organised well, the group split into two, 4 working on the ‘Mulch Pile 1’ and 6 working on the ‘Mulch Pile 2’. They all grabbed the wheelbarrows, rakes and shovels ready to begin. They made their way to their designated sections and designated paths that they were to cover with the woodchips during the task. Let’s just say the task was a lot more physically strenuous that initially thought! Shovelling woodchips into a wheelbarrow, walking the woodchips to the path, emptying the load of woodchips on the floor and repeating while another member rakes over the path to ensure the surface was flat. Halfway through, the Mulch Pile 1 group got a call requesting back up at Mulch Pile 2, as it was a bigger job than predicted. They made a large dent in each of the Mulch Piles, but did not quite finish, so there may be a similar job reappearing soon!

After a group selfie, the crew walked back to the reserve at around 8:15, with tools in hand, ready to depart.
