Welcome to GoodGym Bexley!

We're a friendly and sociable group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every Wednesday evening to get active and do a physical task to help the community organisations and charities in our area.

The task

We're going to be running/walking around The Hollies area of Sidcup collecting plastic tubs (think Heroes, Quality Street, crackers etc.) that will be sent for recycling to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sadly the tubs will be empty, but there might just be some chocolate treats on hand at the end 🍬!

The Hollies residents have been invited to leave out their tubs for us to pick up, and we'll finish by taking them to the main collection centre at a local pub.

This task supports the Tub2Pub scheme run by Greene King pubs. They send the tubs to be processed and the recycled plastic is sold to make new items. Funds from the sale go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

So we'll be good deeding:

🌍 For the planet - helping prevent hard-to-recycle plastics from going to landfill

💰 For people - raising funds for a fantastic charity

📍 Where and where?

The task is at 7pm at the entrance to The Hollies at the junction of Burnt Oak Lane and Rowanwood Avenue in Sidcup. What3Words location: ///lost.wake.trail

Getting there

For the group run we'll meet at 6.45pm at Sidcup Leisure Centre, Hurst Rd, Sidcup DA15 9AE. After a short warm up it's a 1km trot to meet anyone going directly to The Hollies at 7pm. Collecting the tubs will cover about 2-3km, and we'll run back 1k to the Leisure Centre after.

Please tell us in the comments below if you plan to make your own way.

On our group runs we stuck together and no-one is left behind. So it doesn't matter how slow or fast you are. We find a chatty, social pace so it's ideal if you are just getting into running.
