This volunteer-run project is transforming the Meadow Lane playground into a nature-inspired play space for children, families and the wider community. Working in partnership with Oxford City Council and informed by local consultation, we’re enhancing the existing play area with natural features that support wildlife, encourage active outdoor play, and create welcoming spaces for all ages. Practical tasks include digging, moving soil, planting hedges and wildflowers, and cutting back old mesh fencing as we begin turning the newly opened area into forest-school play zones and wildlife-friendly habitat. This session will help us make tangible progress in transforming the playground on Meadow Lane into a welcoming, nature-rich space for children and families.

In the longer term, the planting of hedges and wildflowers and the reshaping of the ground will improve biodiversity, create more opportunities for imaginative, nature-based play, and make the playground a more inviting place for families of all backgrounds. Support from GoodGym will help accelerate the development of a supported project that benefits children, residents and local wildlife alike.

The session: Volunteers will help with practical groundwork to begin transforming the playground into nature-based play spaces. Tasks will include digging and moving soil to shape the ground for a log circle, planting hedging and wildflowers to create wildlife-friendly boundaries and habitats, and cutting back sections of old mesh fencing to open up and improve the space. There will also may be some lifting and positioning of natural materials (such as logs) to start defining play areas.

Please bring your gardening gloves. All tools will be provided.

We will meet at the playground.
