30 runners legged it up to Palace Road Nature Gardens and removed loads of ivy, did some hoeing and had a good old tidy up! Plus it was BREAD WEEK on Bake Off

Last night was the hottest September ever on record ever. We discussed how it seems to be every Tuesday that has been the hottest days over the summer. Nice and all that, but quite sweaty for this old running business.

Big ups to Steve for getting his black T-shirt for 50 good deeds and also to Marie for her 150th run! Wowee. Both were award winners for Lambeth's September Shit Prize of the Month. Congrats guys!

We split into two groups and one took a shorter route up Brixton Hill, the others taking a slightly longer route around the houses. On arrival at Palace Road Nature Gardens, Gerry had lots of tools ready, including a scythe (!) and we split into 3 teams.

Team one had to finish what we started with the front railings a couple of weeks back. We have removed all the ivy and cut away any naughty foliage sticking through the railings onto the road. A breakaway team helped clear the pathway of similar stuff.

Team 2 did a similar job on the railings surrounding the pond and Team 3 worked in the pond area removing weeds.

We did a cracking job and thanks to rogue gardeners Rebecca - who did litter picking, Patrick - who did some scything on the long grass and nettles, and George - who collected all waste and took it to the compost heap. Gerry was delighted!

I'm delighted! Said Gerry

Just before we ran off down the hill, the group lined up in a nice low squat and held out their right hand. Alex ran along the group in a mega team high five. Hooray!

Back at base we were talking all things Bake Off (Channel 4 how could you?!) and we ate delicious fare from Tom Benson and Elise in BREAD WEEK. It was quite delicious and Mary Berry would have been delighted. And with that we all went off into the night (when did it get dark?!) and drank lots of rehydration fluids. Good work Team Lambeth!
