16 GoodGymers ran 6k to Core CIC to continue the Epic renovations on the glorious old building.

For the first session of 2017 we were full of energy from the Festive Carb Load and ready for action!!

Great to have GoodGym first timers Gavin and Katie along for their maiden Goodgym Hackney running tour! As well as Amy celebrating her 1st Goodgym birthday 🎉

After a warm welcome on a very cold evening we got the blood flowing with a 5 minute jog to Hackney Downs station where we got dynamically warmed up with a few well needed mobilisation exercises! Our joints a little more mobile and our muscles activated we set off to complete the 3k run to Northwold Road and the Core CIC building.

Meeting Danny (the co founder) we split into teams to complete a multitude of tasks in the much changed site. The building is almost unrecognisable from the first visit back in October, all the walls, ceiling and kitchens have gone!

Our first squad moved huge planks of wood in a daisy chain to start to clear the final area of flooring so it can be ripped up. A slick formation and work flow allowed 1000kg of wood to be shifted in the 40 minutes on site!!

The second and bravest team mastered a new skill and removed killer light bulbs from their light fittings so they could be recycled. 150 light bulbs in 3 trugs were removed with the old fittings carried to the skip.

The more unlucky group started removing the bathroom fittings but as the job proved to be a smelly one we cut it a little short and focused on clearing the sinks and rubbish from the bathrooms.

Like a flash 40 minutes had flown by and we a quick thank you from Danny we headed out into the night to Race back to Base but with a twist, our Hare's Amy and Clare set off at a steady pace and everyone else left as much time as they dare before trying to chase them down aiming to get back to the Bakehouse all at the same time!

Some seriously impressive running saw us all fly back in record time, great to see some really solid running form still on display all the way to the end!!

We are off to Abney Park Cemetery for a double header over the next week!! First a Super special Starter Session on Saturday sign up here, then next Tuesday we are back to Abney Park Sign up here.

Smooth Running
