26 energetic GoodGymers ran 7k to the enchanting Abney Park Cemetery and planted 400 bulbs, shovelled, barrowed and tipped 2 tonnes of soil into the sinking Common graves.

2017 got into full swing this week with loads of returning recruits as well as 5 GoodGymer newbies.

We started with the ever important safety briefing after a huge round of applause for the first timers we had a special announcement and huge congratulations to Anna for joining the 50 club with her 50th GoodDeed 🎉🏆🎈🎊

We set off on our 3k route weaving in and out of the Hackney back streets and main roads on our way North to Stoke Newington. Stopping for a quick dynamic stretch once the blood was flowing and pulses were raised.

Great to see the training paying off for our regular runners as their running getting more economical and pace picking up.

We arrived at Abney Park to meet Tom the Park manager who got us fully tooled up and we headed off into the Cemetery to get work done!!

Splitting into groups we have 7 bulb planters speedily borrowing away sweeping as many bulbs into the bank as possible to form a wild flower bed in the spring.

The bulk of the crew teamed up to alternate between being barrow pushers and shovelers. Some seriously physical work was put in to shovel and shift the clay wet soil, great technique on display gave us a top leg workout!

40 minutes of intense action saw is plant 400 bulbs and fill the dunked common graves with 2 tonnes of soil. Really great effort and helped to preserve the common graves for another year or two!!

After running the tools back to office we spit into Speedy and Sexy groups for our race back to base. Peter lead the Sexy group back with a consistent pace on a 3k route. While 12 Speedy crew runners pushed the pace on a 4K loop back averaging 5 minutes a K all the way back!

A static stretch out and we all disappeared off into the night with some top running and doing Good under our belt!

Really hope to see you all back next week when we visit Dalston Roof garden for another epic task!! Sign up here.

Clare has chosen the location for the January monthly social so we will be heading to a local Vietnamese restaurant on the 24th for a proper refuel after the session!! Please come along it is always a fun night!!

Have a great week

Smooth Stepping

P.S sorry for the photo shocker!! Using head torch as lighting seems to have been a bit too much for my brain.
