This week we went to one of our regular Southwark tasks, Grove Park allotments, which is a short but hilly run away from our meeting point at Old Spike Roastery. Once the introductions and reminder about all the ways to get involved with GoodGym including coach runs, missions and races were out of the way our London Marathon runners Helena and Michael lead the way and we all got up the hill pretty quickly leaving us plenty of time to get the task done. As usual, Lizzie had plenty of things that needed doing so we split up and got going.

Rob, Sarah, Helena and Chiara had the job of removing a rosemary bush

Gearoid and Lucia did some weeding

Michael and Matt had a go with the strimmer and then removed some metal rods that had been in position for 60 years

Lianne watered

Lee helped the bee-keeper put up a bird house

Chris and Emma got rid of some ivy

After a solid 45 minutes work it was time to head back to Old Spike and do some prep for this summer’s main event, the inaugural GoodGym Olympics. As it’s almost Easter rather than an egg and spoon race we started off with an Easter egg relay followed by a wheelbarrow race and finally a 3-legged race. Both teams did really well and it was such a close finish we had to call it a draw. With the good and the gym done for the evening a few of us retired to the Rye pub for more Olympic chat including potential designs for our flag.
