Despite of the unenticing nature of the Autumn evening rain, the Tower Hamlets GoodGymmers were out in full force on Monday, eager to do good and get fit. With the scheduled task at Hollybush foiled by the poor weather and flash flood, the ever quick-witted coach Tom managed to procure gardening gloves from a nearby purveyor, which the 21-strong crew happily donned, then proceeded to lead the way to Haggerston Park for some impromptu weeding. After filling what can only be described as between 7 and 9 green waste bags - and battling a few nettles in the process - the owners of the Orchard will no doubt be pleasantly surprised tomorrow morning to find a pristine weed-free fence. Following a short warm-up, including some excellent squats and associated animal noises, the group jogged to what was affectionately referred to as "that square where all the youths hang out", for some short paired intervals, then onto Weavers Fields for some intense team games. Two eagerly fought Noughts and Crosses games saw a classic score draw and a 3-2 victory at the expense of a sports bra. The session was concluded with a sprint race, shortly after being chased out of the Fields by an angry ranger. What an eventful session! Many thanks to all those who made it and to Tom for the inventive games & last-minute task. From nettles to kettles, I think we all deserved a well-earned brew.
