Hi everyone and welcome to GoodGym Greenwich!
We're a friendly and social group who combine running with volunteering in the local community. We meet every Wednesday to get active and do a physical task for charities and community organisations in the area.
The Task
This week we'll be helping the Friends of Plumstead Common Allotments to clear an abandoned allotment so that it can be taken on for growing fruit and vegetables again. Expect chopping down brambles and cutting down long grass. Long sleeves might be useful for this one!
The Run
The run will be about 2.5km each way and it is a bit of a hill on the way so be prepared for this! We always have a back marker so you'll never be left behind.
Where & When
We'll meet at 6.45pm for a 7pm start outside the Woolwich Crossrail station. The session will be about 90 minutes in total so we should be all wrapped up by 8.30pm.
If you'd like to skip the run and meet at the task, you're more than welcome to. The address is the allotments between 124 and the flats on Swingate Lane, SE18 2HL.
What To Bring
Please bring some gloves and some water.
See you then!
Make sure you've read our general guidelines for safety for taking part in a GoodGym session.
This is a GoodGym group run. You'll meet other GoodGymers at the start location and run to the task together. If you can't run for more than 15 minutes without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact your area activator Rachel Henry by email at rachelhenry@goodgym.org.
Area Activator at GoodGym Greenwich. I love community and getting to know all the great initiatives and people that make it what it is!

Hi Rachel Henry, Just a quick note to say I have been to the allotment site today. We could certainly do with some help.

The site is secured/protected by a gate and a fenced door. as might be expected for a site established in 1910 this fence is protected by barbed wire.

Please can I ask you to advise the participants are aware and careful of the gate and and be aware theimmediate storage shed also securing the site is a state of collapse so to be wary.

Lastly there is absolutely no water supply to the site so bottled water is essential. Thankyou, Luke Blakey, member of SavePCAS/PCAS unincorporated association.

Also in order to protect the site one or both padlocks are kept locked whilst work is happening/site in use to maintain the security and privacy of the site.
