Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)
We may have slightly surprised the staff at Windmill Hill City Farm by arriving at 8am, but they were overjoyed and quickly set us to our new task - the original plan of digging was a non-starter with frozen ground.
The site used to be terraced housing so whenever they dig out a new area they find loads of rubble/hardcore and anything they cant reuse on the farm gets put into big rubble sacks and hidden. They have so much hidden away that they'd ordered a skip and need the rubble moved.
We made good progress and are going back for the next few days to try to clear it all - happy mornings!
And a quick hello to the animals that were waking up, breaking the ice on their water troughs so they could get ready for breakfast :-)
Windmill Hill City Farm is a charity that provides recreation, education and therapy using food, farming and the environment as a theme.
